We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Challaborough Bay. We won it in an ebay auction and as we've never been here, before decided to give it ago. As many reviewers have mentioned once you pass Modbury the lanes that lead down to the park are very tight country lanes, there are a few passing places, but unfortunately alot of drivers don't use them and drive straight towards you. If you are easily intimidated this wont be very pleasant. When you get to the park you are greeted by the lovely bay that sweeps out in front of you. It really is very serene. The check in process was very easy, and our caravan was located in the Glen section. The caravan was very clean, had a small decking area outside with a view of the sea, and a great shower. My only problem with the caravan was the size of the toilet, it was housed it a room that was literally 3ft x 2ft, if you are broad shouldered as I am, you wont fit in there. Thank goodness there was toilets on site!!

There was no mobile phone reception here whatsoever, (we use o2), and if you want to use an internet dongle then forget as there is no coverage here. We went to a PC World to ask and they did a check and found nothing for the area.

One other thing to mention is the shop closes at 6pm, so if you need anything after that time the nearest supermarket is in Kingsbridge which is 9 miles away.

Brilliant singer in the club house on the saturday night, Matt Baker I think, we only went once and the price for a house vodka and Orange and a Crabbies Ginger beer was £9.80 so gave it a miss from then.

We went to the restaurant on the last morning for a full breakfast which I can highly recommend, great views across the bay, and the prices for food were really good.

Im glad we came here but wouldn't return due to the remoteness of the area

After eventualy finding the park, and driving down a very narrow lane!!!! The sun was out and the beach looked lovely. We checked in and found, our caravan whch was facing a building site , they are building new holiday homes, although we didnt hear it too much, we should have been told about this. Our caravan was lovely and clean and had a decking area. We found out the fridge freezer wasnt working,we went to reception and they contacted maintenace, we had only just got back to caravan and the maintenace team were there, they quickly found us a brand new fridge freezer and took the old one away, and were very helpulful. We ate at the resturant serveral times food was good, and served quickly, and staff very helpful and friendly. We also went to the nightly entertainment which was very good, Michele Upton an excellant femle singer. We walked to Burgh Island and stopped off to have a drink. The mobile signal was rubbish, and even when we were sat in the entertaintment we couldnt get WIFI.We had a lovely time, and were very lucky with the weather. But on our way home driving up the very narrow lane, we were met by a huge lorry, and a driver who was very aggresive,my husband had to back up and as there was no passing place had to go into the hedge!!!! the driver didnt wait for us to do this, continued coming towards us finding it funny!!!! my husband is a good driver, and the lorry missed hitting us by millimetres!!!!! And luckly didnt damage our car!!!!!!! We enjoyed our holiday, and the caravan was nice, but unless they sort out the WIFI, and the narrow lane approaching the beach with traffic lights maybe? We will not be returning

Have just returned from a week stay at this Parkdean resort... We stayed in a 8 berth caravan Coromont, which was very clean, comfortable beds and clean linen, which we paid extra for and also had a washing machine, iron and board and outside small decking area. The site itself is small and friendly, with very close excess to a small beach which looks across to Burgh Island. The costal walk is slightly hilly, but well worth the walk around to Bigbury on Sea and when the tide is out you can walk across to Burgh Island for a drink in the 1336 built pub called the Pilchard Inn. The site has no wifi, if O2 you can walk to the shop onsite and you are able to get, reception on the mobile, which I did find not having the phone was a godsend. The onsite faciities were good, with very clean and not very busy pool, small, but very well equipt food, wine and gifts. The takeaway shop, served fish and chips, pizza and pies, and the enterntainment was just ok, although only used twice.
The drive in and out of the park was thru single lanes, but did have a few passing place to nip in and out off for oncomming traffic which can takes about 15 minutes to get onto the main road.. |All in all I was very pleased with our stay and give it a Excellect review, helped by the gorgeous weather we had.

Stayed here recently on a Sun promotion holiday and was pleasantly surprised. The site itself is in a great location, right on the beach and only a short walk over the cliff to Bigbury on Sea where there is an even nicer beach. Dartmouth, Salcombe and Plymouth are all within easy drivable distance from the park and are great locations for days out. Kingsbridge is also very nearby and has a tesco and morrisons. There is also a small convenience shop on the holiday park which has everything you may need and fairly reasonable prices (what you would expect from a corner type shop).
The park has a lovely swimming pool which was very clean and was never very busy. Also on site is a pub which has great sea views and reasonably priced tasty food. The only negative about this park was the evening entertainment, which left a lot to be desired.
The caravan itself was fabulous. It was a Tern 3 bed, in an excellent location very close to the front of the park. It was very clean and had everything you might need. Overall we had a wonderful holiday and I would recommend this holiday park to anyone looking for a relaxed holiday in Devon.

We had a very enjoyable 5 day break at this site, admitted helped by some very good weather. It is quite remote, so a car is essential, although once there it has a good beach and there is some excellent walking on the SW coastal path, so you don't need to drive somewhere every day. It's 1/2 hour or less to most of the larger towns in the South Hams, such as Totnes, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge and about 40 minutes to Plymouth. Our caravan was very well appointed and the site in general was very clean and tidy. Not long after arriving, someone came to our caravan to make sure everything was ok - a nice touch. We used the restaurant a couple of times and found the food adequate, although some of the young staff seemed quite inexperienced. There is also a decent size swimming pool with spa and sauna and a fairly well appointed gym.
