Our caravan was fantastic, spacious and with an en suite, (10 sea view) beautiful sea view as the name would suggest. The scenery is stunning you have to walk over the cliff to bigbury it's only half a mile but views are breathtaking. Ate in the restaurant twice. First time waited 50 mins. Not massively busy and not ideal with a 5 year old so a little disappointed. Sunday carvery was excellent though. We booked and got there early! Attempted to eat there on the Sunday (our last day), it was quiet and told there was no food wait when we asked. Great!! However after waiting 35 mins we were told our food would be at least another 10 mins!!! When my partner enquired, and when questioned why the wait all of a sudden he was told that in the waiters opinion that wasn't really that long to wait for food. Hmmm?? I explained that we asked initially and were told no wait. If we had been informed of actual wait then we would not of ordered! Not good enough when you have small mouths to feed!! We got a refund, we were hugely annoyed and disappointed by the attitude of the staff member.. I feel the restaurant massively lets down the park, the toilets were dirty, the tables were always left for ages with dirty plates and glasses. The staff were generally friendly but could do with a shake up! The swimming pool was ok, though the life guards could be more attentive as teenagers dive bombing next to your 5 year old is not the most fun, and the toddler pool was more a small paddling pool! The fryer tucks takeaway is great. V friendly staff :) This park has so much potential it's a real shame that these things that are so easily fixed let it down massively. We have never used parkdean before and i don't think we will again if this is their standards.

This park is a good base for having a relaxing holiday with the kids. Very close is a nearby beach where the sea retreats a nice distance at low tide. Nearby is Burgh Island which is accessible by an uphill walk at first to Bigbury-on-Sea. Although you can travel by car from the site to Bigbury it is quicker to walk if you are fit enough. The site has a good range of facilities available but the site restaurant/cafe has a limited food menu at lunchtimes, and the dinner meals don't start to be cooked until 5.30pm. The site is well maintained, with most drivers keeping to below the speed limited. Entertainment was the usual fare of kids entertainment and bingo. The roads around and about are narrow with regular passing places, so be prepared to look ahead and stop in plenty of time for a smooth and hassle free visit. The bus service is once a week on Friday mornings

We have had a Caravan here for the last five years but have been going for about 20 years. Great site and family friendly with safe beach and indoor pool, onsite entertainment and restaurant.
Also has great Coastal Path walks with lots of views.

Stayed on park with my 3 kids, age 21, 17 and 10. We stayed in no. 8 watling and had a fantastic sea view from our caravan. The caravan was really clean upon arrival. The parkdean staff were friendly and helpful and the check in was quick and easy. The on site shop had plenty of choice and prices were quite reasonable. The beach itself was rather rocky and stoney, not brilliant for sandcastles! At times there was some debris on the beach too. I would definitely recommend going over to bigbury on sea, which is literally a 10 minute walk over the top of the cliff. That beach is beautiful and has white sand and plenty of it, although at times it could get quite busy. The hilltop café did brilliant cream teas. The restaurant on the park site was fantastic for the sunday carvery, which was available through pre booking, however our midweek meal there took over an hour to arrive and the waitresses kept making mistakes on peoples orders, for example I was given mayonnaise when I asked for tartar sauce... which I put all over my fish. Challaborough bay park is a quiet park which is ideal for families if you want somewhere as a base for travelling to local attractions such as paignton zoo and the national marine center which were good. I'm sure many other people have mentioned this, the roads leading into challaborough bay were extremely narrow and windey... would definitely say to take the first turning to challaborough, instead of following the sat nav which takes you an even narrower route. Doesn't take any longer, just much less hassle than the second route. I would return to Challaborough Bay again and would recommend one of the caravans on watling if you are a family of 4. The only drawback on these caravans is the steep hill leading up to them... which is pretty scary to get your car up, unless you own a range rover... was nice and quiet up on these caravans though, so was worth it. If you decide to visit, you'll see what I mean about the views here. Can see the sea from the living room and other side is hills and trees. It's a nice perspective instead of being on the ground caravans which have little view at all.

Great holiday, would recommend.

We have just returned from a fantastic week at Challaborough Bay. I took my daughter and 4 grandchildren aged 8 to 17 and we all had a wonderful time. I am not sure where the writer of the recent negative review was staying as we did not feel there was any danger at all. The beach was generally clean. Lifeguards were in attendance all day and moved the flags and ensured bathers/children stayed in the 'safe' areas when the tides were strong. If they wanted a different beach, Bigbury on Sea is just a short walk over the hill.
The holiday park is clean and well maintained. Our only criticism was the pub which is at the beach front. We booked a table for 7.00 pm in the restaurant area but when we ordered our food we were told there would be a one hour wait. When we queried this as we had booked we were told that booking only guaranteed a table and did not give us precedence over 'bar food' orders. The wait turned out to be one hour and 55 minutes! By this time we had bought 3 rounds of drinks to while away the time - we were given complimentary nachos too (as an apology for the wait). However, by the time the food finally arrived we had pretty much gone past hungry. The kids were tired and fed up and had filled up on coke and nachos so consequently much of the food was left. One family seated close to us with small children went out and bought a takeaway for the children as they were hungry. I would not recommend eating there. Just past the pub is a wonderful takeaway, Fryer Tuck's, with a covered 'restaurant area'. Here you will find a warm welcome and wonderful freshly cooked food at very reasonable prices.
