“Beautiful Location”

Stayed on park with my 3 kids, age 21, 17 and 10. We stayed in no. 8 watling and had a fantastic sea view from our caravan. The caravan was really clean upon arrival. The parkdean staff were friendly and helpful and the check in was quick and easy. The on site shop had plenty of choice and prices were quite reasonable. The beach itself was rather rocky and stoney, not brilliant for sandcastles! At times there was some debris on the beach too. I would definitely recommend going over to bigbury on sea, which is literally a 10 minute walk over the top of the cliff. That beach is beautiful and has white sand and plenty of it, although at times it could get quite busy. The hilltop café did brilliant cream teas. The restaurant on the park site was fantastic for the sunday carvery, which was available through pre booking, however our midweek meal there took over an hour to arrive and the waitresses kept making mistakes on peoples orders, for example I was given mayonnaise when I asked for tartar sauce... which I put all over my fish. Challaborough bay park is a quiet park which is ideal for families if you want somewhere as a base for travelling to local attractions such as paignton zoo and the national marine center which were good. I'm sure many other people have mentioned this, the roads leading into challaborough bay were extremely narrow and windey... would definitely say to take the first turning to challaborough, instead of following the sat nav which takes you an even narrower route. Doesn't take any longer, just much less hassle than the second route. I would return to Challaborough Bay again and would recommend one of the caravans on watling if you are a family of 4. The only drawback on these caravans is the steep hill leading up to them... which is pretty scary to get your car up, unless you own a range rover... was nice and quiet up on these caravans though, so was worth it. If you decide to visit, you'll see what I mean about the views here. Can see the sea from the living room and other side is hills and trees. It's a nice perspective instead of being on the ground caravans which have little view at all.

Great holiday, would recommend.

“Brilliant place for a family holiday”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

We have just returned from a fantastic week at Challaborough Bay. I took my daughter and 4 grandchildren aged 8 to 17 and we all had a wonderful time. I am not sure where the writer of the recent negative review was staying as we did not feel there was any danger at all. The beach was generally clean. Lifeguards were in attendance all day and moved the flags and ensured bathers/children stayed in the 'safe' areas when the tides were strong. If they wanted a different beach, Bigbury on Sea is just a short walk over the hill.
The holiday park is clean and well maintained. Our only criticism was the pub which is at the beach front. We booked a table for 7.00 pm in the restaurant area but when we ordered our food we were told there would be a one hour wait. When we queried this as we had booked we were told that booking only guaranteed a table and did not give us precedence over 'bar food' orders. The wait turned out to be one hour and 55 minutes! By this time we had bought 3 rounds of drinks to while away the time - we were given complimentary nachos too (as an apology for the wait). However, by the time the food finally arrived we had pretty much gone past hungry. The kids were tired and fed up and had filled up on coke and nachos so consequently much of the food was left. One family seated close to us with small children went out and bought a takeaway for the children as they were hungry. I would not recommend eating there. Just past the pub is a wonderful takeaway, Fryer Tuck's, with a covered 'restaurant area'. Here you will find a warm welcome and wonderful freshly cooked food at very reasonable prices.

“Challaborough delight”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

My family and I have just returned from a 4 night stay at Challaborough Bay resort, this is the second visit we have made there, the first was 6 years previous and our family is growing in Age at least.
The area is beautiful, the bay is secluded, single track road down to bay!,no phone signal if you want to escape the daily phone/ emails, however wifi is available at the main bar.
We loved it! The beach was nice, the locals all friendly, just one small local shop but plenty on offer within, Plymouth half an hour away with Morrisons on the main road in!.
The weather was what made the place so great, clear blue, sun shining and easy to access. Will go again next year, really nice lovely area. Accomodation brand new and well kitted out.

“Realistic”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Im sure the previous post feels better after their rant, there are signs of falling brick and rock on the beach but I put this down to coastal erosion. The infference the previous review made was that rocks are falling at any moment, this is not the case? As regards rubbish we are on the beach 2-3 times per month and dont see much rubbish. Still believe its a great place to visit

“concrete city”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Stayed at Challaborough Bay a couple of weeks ago. Please don't go with children - very unsafe and dirty. The beach is a real Health and Safety issue. Bits of concrete lying around the beach with steps and walls falling. Rubbish absolutely everywhere on the beach. A big subsidence issue just coming onto the beach and not properly sealed off as it only had a bit of metal railing next to it. No signs to say 'Beware of Danger'. We went for four nights with our two boys aged four and two. Weather good but hated going onto the beach and tried to to find another one close by to no avail. They couldn't play on the beach without us having to pick up loads of rubbish that they had found, couldn't relax with the children so worried about a wall or load of concrete falling on them. Would hate to see a news headline about a fatality. Don't go!
