“Super Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

We have always loved the South Hams area as a family member has a chalet in Dartmouth, having explored the area and spending family holidays in Salcombe we always enjoyed visiting Bigbury.
We were in the position to look at static caravans and whilst visiting Bigbury on a day trip we came across Challaborough Bay. We loved the location instantly due to the Site Facilities, beach and great walks for the family and dogs. We did think the club looked tired but had a suprise when it was refurbished over the closed season 2012/2013.
The facilties on site tick all of the boxes and we have had some great nights at the club, the pool area is very well presented and comfortably warm. We do not watch Sid & Lizzie as our kids are past that stage but all the kids seem to enjoy the act when we have arrived earlier at the club.
The food in the Waterside Bar is good and well priced and Steve at Fryer Tucks serves great fish and Chips and goes out of his way to accomodate you with a fantastic location overlooking the beach.
There is no signal on site but there are payphones and WiFi in the Club and Bar and O2 has limited coverage, the lanes are narrow but most small coves in the UK have this type of access. We have been visiting Challaborough since last September and look forward to every visit, I would recommend the site to all and I wish you luck on the weather.

“good park, great staff!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

we stayed for a week over Easter in a 'Tern' caravan which was really good for our family of 4 and the caravan was spotless (and I am very fussy!) with plenty of room. Would have to say it was a bit chilly overnight as there was no central heating but there was a gas fire and some bedroom heating, I would recommend taking extra bedding if you feel the cold.
The pool was clean and warm according to the kids and the clubhouse was ok, the entertainment staff worked hard to make sure people had a good time. The pub next door (Waterfront bar?) was good for food, reasonably priced and massive portions!
The staff throughout the park and in the pub were all excellent, knowledgable, friendly and genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs, any minor problems we had were dealt with efficiently. I would recommend the park for a relaxing family holiday, great for cliff top walks, surfing and relaxing on the beach.

“cottage holiday”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

Have just returned from challaborough beautiful ocean views from the cottage but twin bedrooms very small and it would not really be suitable for 6 people. We were 4 and 1 infant and had to stack the beds in one room to accomodate a travel cot.Cottage definately needs updating but we were able to keep it warm and kitchen facilities were good.there is no mobile phone signal. Very pleasant decked verandah
Reception staff very helpful and efficient
.Couldn't find a review before we went hope this is helpful. But nevertheless we managed and enjoyed our holiday

“An oasis for a thirsty traveller.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

We were walking the South Devon coast path and were desperate for food and drink. Having passed two closed pubs we felt we were going to have to remain hungry - until we got to Challaborough and were served two good, tasty meals.

“Nice October break.....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

We went to Challaborough for October half term, a Monday to Friday short break. Our caravan was only about 3 years old and perfect for a change of scenery by the sea!! We really liked the area, coastal path walks were fab with dingly dell villages to see and the scenery was pretty amazing too.
We used the swimming pool and sauna, which were better than we thought they would be. We didn't go into the club though.
The lanes in that area are very narrow, we got used to it after a few days.
I thought that whole Bigbury on Sea area of Devon was very nice, much less touristy than Torquay and Paignton!! Dartmouth is a must visit.
