“No better than years ago.”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

Read the recent reviews and was hungry last week after returning across Roborough Downs. This is still a humdrum old fashioned road side cafe used predominantly by older people. The food is very ordinary, still quite expensive and the room is a bland environment with a seventies flavour to the decor. If you are a pensioner with time to kill and aren't discriminating and demanding as to what you eat then come out for a drive and then kill a couple of hours in here. Bare in mind though that although it is very close to open moorland, the views through the windows are of a busy main road.

Worth mentioning perhaps that the location at the heading of the Tripadvisor listing is misleading. The building and car park are on the northbound side of the road, ie to your left as you drive towards Yelverton..

“lovely now”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

this is at the beginning of the long straight starting the moors off Roborough on the side of the road,it has been rebuilt from a tiny hut no seats to to very large restaurant and the food is really nice, plenty of parking, from there the moors can be seen for miles and miles on a clear day,L would highly recommend this diner.

“I wondered why the carpark was always packed...”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

We've driven past this place, at mealtimes, on several occasions and the carpark is always full and we wondered why? So we went for lunch yesterday and I have to say we still wonder why...
£8.95 for the carvery so it can't be the prices as there are plenty of establishments the same price or cheaper.
And the toilets were dirty.
The work surfaces, where they abutted the walls, and the ends of the booths were dirty.
There is a good buzz when you go in and the staff are very friendly so maybe its that?
And there is a reasonably sized menu of traditional cafe dishes
Plus there is a good game, which I'm sure you've all played, where you have to guess which of the people at the carvery queue is going to get the most on his/her plate without anything falling off onto the floor. (My wife won...)

“We love it”
Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

My family visit from Buckinghamshire and always insist on the Dartmoor Diner for breakfast or tea. We've never had a bad meal and the service is exceptional. They are so friendly and we've never felt rushed. And the proof is that we always go back.
