“"A civilised touch".”
Reviewed June 11, 2011

I found myself going back again to La Fregate this weekend and came away with the same impressions as in my earlier review in 2008 - a really nice place to eat, with a civilised touch, that offers quality dining in a sophisticated, muzak-free environment.
Again, a bit too much of the "Yure welcome!" going on from the waiters, some of whose English was pretty ropey, but there was little to find fault with in our menu choices.
Portions are plentiful, dishes are fresh and tasty, wine selection is good. Views are stunning and the tables are not squidged in tightly together, unlike many establishments these days where you can often end up unintentionally eavesdropping on your neighbour's recent sex change. No - plenty of "pamper" space around you here.
For a memorable finale, go for the "Crepe Suzette" - always guaranteed to light up your evening. That is, if you are not one of the Gluten-free band of brothers.
JLR Score - 40/50

“Top class cuisine on the island”
Reviewed March 28, 2011

The entire experience was faultless and wonderful. Findng the restaurant in the maze of one way narrow streets was an interesting start to the evenning.

The atmosphere and ambiance of the esatblishment was high class.

A superb menu that is not cheap, but was delicious. The dinner menu was tremendous good value.

Ingerdients, presentation and flavours were outsatnding. It was an evenning to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday and we came away thoroughly impressed.

Sadly we were visitors to the island so probably will not have the opportuniity to return!

“Without a doubt, the best fine-dining in Guernsey”
Reviewed February 6, 2011

I live in Guernsey and eat out quite a lot. This is without any doubt the best restaurant in Guersney if you are looking for culinary excellence. The food is outstanding. There are plenty of locally sourced ingrediencts. It is on par with Bohemia restaurant in Jersey. There is great attention to detail with the food and the selection of cheeses available for the cheeseboard is excellent. You will not be disappointed. This is not the cheapest restaurant in Guernsey but I still consider it very good value for money because the food is high-class. The views over St Peter Port are second to none.

“Poor service”
Reviewed October 26, 2010

For a quality restaurant, they fell down on service. My main course of rack of lamb was overcooked which didn't seem to concern the waiter.
Through our 3 courses, when paying, and when leaving, at no time were we asked if all was OK. Some might say we should have called a waiter to complain but we were under a time constraint and would not have had time for a course to be re cooked.

When paying a lot of money, you expect a lot of quality and service. This was not always forthcoming.

“Excellent food and service, lacking ambience.”
Reviewed June 1, 2010

Dined in the restaurant on our first night of a four day stay. We arrived late because of an airline glitch so the kitchen staff probably were less than chuffed with us but definitely came up with an excellent meal. Food was was superb, particularly the lamb. Avoid getting stuck in the bland new bit of the restaurant. We moved because of a rather noisy group on the next table but it does feel rather divorced from the rest of the restaurant.
