Owner description: The Guernsey Tapestry is a fantastic way to understand the complex history of the islands. Ten panels (all stitched by locals to celebrate the Millenium) beautifully explain the events of each century. An easy to use and understand audio guide adds to the experience (available in English, French and German). A quote from the visitors book 'This was a wonderful way of telling history - I've never seen anything quite like it - don't miss it!'

“Not really for kids.”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

What a good idea for a millennium project.

The tapestry is a well made community project and tells the story of Guernsey's development over the centuries in an interesting and easily understood fashion. Not really for kids and a steepish walk up from the harbourside for no more than the half an hour needed to take it in. Still worth the effort though.

£4.95 a head for entry/audio guide.

“Nice way to know a bit about Guernsey's history”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

Not very big, but quite nice. You have a sort of phone in your lanquage, which is very nice !
The embroidery work is quite impressing. And apparently, it was a sort of teamwork between the towns in the island.
Only thing I really don't recommend is to go and have lunch upstairs - it was the most horrible experience we had in Guernsey. So better go and have your lunch somewhere else !

I am sorry you had a bad experience in the cafe. I would like to let you know that it is currently under going refurbishment and will re-opening in September under new management with a new chef. Thank you as always for your feed back.

“The highlight of our trip”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

I'm not really interested in history - but this was truly amazing. The 10 panels depict history in 100 year sections from AD1000 to the last millenium. The detail and skill is simply awsome.

“a must-see”

A wonderful exhibition, 10 panels telling the history of Guernsey. Each panel had been stitched by a different parish on the island

“An absolute must.”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

A superb exhibition of embroidery. Each panel was embroidered by one of the Parishes and is a history of the last millennium in each Parish. The work began in 1995 and carried out by members of the W.I. and members of the Parish who paid £1 for carrying out a few stitches to cover the expense. Well worth a visit.
