Owner description: Sausmarez Manor is still the seat of the seigneurs de Sausmarez since C1205. There are a number of interesting things to do or see whilst you are there;- Historic House tours a Subtropical Garden, a Sculpture Park, a ride on train, Ghost Tours, a Short Golf course, Craft shops

It was early in the morning when we arrived and I will admit we did not do the tour of the home because the rest of the site was so......well awful. I don't really know how to explain it apart from saying that for a building and area with such potential what I saw was an embarrassing eye sore - plenty of other things to see. Take a snap from the road and keep going!

I am so glad you enjoyed your visit and thank you for your generous comments. You are right it is unusual and rather relaxed. I hope you will be able to come again and enjoy perhaps the ghost tour or a game of Pitchand Putt on the Short Golf Course. You will be pleased to hear that your views are reciprocated when the visitors to Guernsey last year voted the manor in the top three attractions in the Bailiwick.

Excellent guide for the house tour but it only visited a few ground floor rooms. The sculpture trail was in the process of being renewed for 2014 but was still well worth seeing.

Dear BDoyl70
Thank you for your comments i will pass on your thanks to the Guide if you can remember her or his name, I am sorry not to have responded before but have only just found out how to respond
The amount of the rooms visited is indeed small 5 and a bit(The Gallery) and has been calculated to more than fill the recommended 45 minutes that the Experts tell us is the ideal time span,. Actually it is difficult to fit everything into the that time. The admission is also very low being below the national average of historic houses.
The sculptures are nearly all in place for the Opening on Sunday( The Daily Telegraph rated it in the Top 5 in Britain and Country Life in the Top 10)Although the Camellias are pretty nearly over the Rhodos are looking well.
Again thanks for your thoughtful comments
Pip Pip,
Peter de Sausmarez

This lovely house and gardens is well worth a visit. Visited on Saturday 19/04/14, basically to visit the farmers market which i believe is on most saturday's. A fine selection of stalls including seafood and Guernsey butcher. I bought Sausdages, steak , burgers etc which we had on a BBQ on Saturday evening. The meat was first class. The grounds have ample parking and organised parking and road crossing staff. The cafe is well stocked and very reasonable. Well worth adding to your to do list.

To begin with: take your time. Lots.
The sculpture trail meanders very thoughtfully laid out through the subtropical garden/park area and allows for a new surprise after every bend.
As can be expected from such a wide range of sculpture styles, themes and cultures, not everything agrees with one's eye - but still, it was a brilliant couple of hours well spent and asking for visiting this place anew, next time I'm at Guernsey.
Besides, the tea and chat are worth a repetition, too...
