“Poor customer care”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

Rooms and hotel are very dated.
poor services by staff. Manager had a dont care attitude.
there are a lot nicer places to stay on the island.
felt like a hotel from the 80s
The food was ok but not as good as it sounds in the description.
Was not helped by the staff who struggled to understand english

Stayed here half board on a long weekend as part of a combined ferry plus hotel package. This was a very cheap deal and as such the hotel represented reasonable value for money. Would agree with previous comments about the decor- this hotel has seen much better days and is rather down at heel. This is definitely 'shabby' without the'chic'. Dining room is gloomy rather than cosy. Waiting staff were pleasant and responded promptly when we expressed dissatisfaction with the table offered-no contact with other staff. Breakfast and dinner were adequate but management have a lot to learn from modern 3* hotels about what travellers expect nowadays. If you believe the hotel brochure hype you are likely to be disappointed but this is a reasonable hotel for the price we paid.

Room Tip: All rooms seem quiet at night

On our first visit to Guernsey we chose the Hougue du Pommier and glad that we did. We booked last minute and Miguel, the manager, was extremely helpful and upgraded us to a superior room. The bar and restaurant were cosy and we had dinner at the hotel. We could not fault the food or the service and it was good value for money. Although the hotel could do with some updating ( which looks as if this is in hand) it did not effect our stay there and would certainly go back there again. Many thanks to Miguel and all his staff.

Stayed 17th - 23rd June. Loved the friendly, helpful staff. Good food and excellent service. Needed a room with more space and this was sorted out for us. All in all a great place to stay. Would love to stay there again.

My partner and I stayed here for a week. I agree with points other reviewers made in that the rooms were comfortable and that staff, particularly the girls at reception were extremely friendly and helpful.
Breakfasts were good quality but the one evening meal we had was bland and tasteless ( two different starters and mains), so we didn't eat there any other evening.
Rooms, although comfortable are in sore need of re-decoration although I appreciate there are currently efforts to invest in the hotel such as new glazing etc.
The hot water in the room was absolutely scalding and I regret not mentioning it before we checked out as it is dangerous in my view.
During our stay we had no contact with the manager, however, a previous reviewer, Mark b recounted words that were exchanged between the manager, Malcolm and him, my partner and I witnessed this exchange and both thought that the way Malcolm spoke to a customer as if he was a naughty schoolboy was demeaning and insulting in the extreme.
If Malcolm had a point to make to someone he should have had the decency to speak to the man in private, not berate him in front of a lobby full of guests.
The fact that Malcolm didn't even have the excuse that he lost his temper somehow made the event worse as he was completely calm when he ripped the customer up for shreds-a rude, unpleasant man who should look to his employees for an example of good customer relations!

I send my clients to this hotel on a regular basis .. The feedback I receive is always very good.. I would not endorse this hotel unless the quality was assured . I have dealt with their general manager on many occasion he is always polite and trustworthy.. I say bravo to Mr Malcolm Davies and his staff that produce a great product.. I would not hesitate myself to stay there.. I recommend this hotel to my many business contacts and close friends. Thanks again.

The hotel receptionist was very welcoming when we arrived. The rooms are a good size and the beds enormous, decor a bit dated, but still comfortable and with all we needed. The rear garden has tables and chairs and a very relaxing atmosphere, as did the bar area. Food was good, although some meals a good generous size (fish and chips, and pizza, were perfect) and others a bit too small (such as the beautifully cooked chicken but limited amount of veg (only one broccoli floret, small amount of beans and four pieces of swede) and the cheese and biscuits was tasty but too small for the cost). Breakfast was wonderful, service very good. Only 10 min walk to Cobo Bay and bus stop virtually outside the hotel was convenient.
