“Comfortable, friendly, lovely area”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We stayed here for 5 nights in August. It is in one of the nicest parts of Guernsey, right on the bus route. It is a quiet area though, if you are looking for a lot of night life. It is extremely easy to get anywhere from the hotel without needing a car. We got a family bus pass and used it to travel all over the island. Our room was comfortable and nicely decorated. The food was good. In fact we ate there every night because it was a pleasant place to hang out. We walked through the ruettes tranquilles (walker friendly) little lanes to the coast. It was an easy walk and difficult to get lost. The tourist map has all the little lanes on it so it is all you need. We had excellent service from the managers, and all the young servers were always friendly and polite. Good breakfasts. One evening a trio of musicians was practicing their folk music, which was great fun to listen to. Would stay here again.

The accommodation and food are very good for a 3 star hotel. The rooms we had were generously sized and tastefully decorated. The hotel has a small pool in the grounds but didn't appear to be well maintained.

Meals were good. Breakfast was a choice of both continental and traditional cooked and was very good. The evening menu provided a good choice and was at the top end of pub food.

The staff are friendly but sometimes a little thin on the ground.

The hotel is a short drive from Cobo and Vazon beaches and has a spacious parking area.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel may get occasional road noise.

The Fleur was pretty good to us. Stayed there about 5-days and had a nice, quiet time. The restaurant was amazing and I would eat there every night if I could, and the fry up you get for breakfast is amazing. However, this place seemed extremely understaffed (many seemed to just be there on 3-month work visas). When we arrived, the poor girl was the only one working the bar and the front. Service also suffered at our second dinner there due to overworked staff. Our room, 222, the window was located right at the staff smoking area, so we had to keep moving the smoking pot. Get room 215 or 217 if you can, they have a patio and a garden area right outside, except they may get a little warm during the summer (my partner's mom stayed in 217, that's how I know). But this place is CLASSIC English style, cozy and just about everything you could ask for in a quiet get-a-way. No way the pool could have been heated, it was definitely too cold to swim in, and it is probably about at least a 20 - 25 minute walk to the beach, which can be difficult to find. I would probably stay here again though.

Room Tip: Do not get stuck with room 222. Although the interior is nice, it can be really noisy right outside...

The Bar/Dining, outside seating area are just lovely. The staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. There were five in our party, and we all ate something different. It was just lovely. I was too full to eat a pudding myself, those that did in our party said "Best they'd ever had".
I wish I had booked this restaurant at the being of our stay rather than at the end, then we could have returned. If I do return to Guernsey it will be the first place I book.
You Must Ring And BOOK otherwise you may be disappointed.

I was trying to book a room here with husband and son. I emailed a question and Sandra Le Scanff replied (Manager). I replied with one other query on 16 Jul 2013 at 17:10. It's now 26th July, ten whole days later and I think I can assume she won't be replying!

I've now booked the Duke of Richmond who are much more professional!

Locally we had a major problem with our service provider and you are one of many who's Emails and reply's got lost in the ether. Can't describe the problems it caused. Little harsh to give us a kicking for something out of our control. Hope you enjoy your stay at the Duke, which we know and would recommend.

The Fleur

Came to the restaurant not ha vying checked on Tripadvisor as no wifi in our holiday cottage. Really liked the place from the gentleman who gave me menus to browse when we popped in to have a look in the afternoon and advised us to book- good job we did , it was rammed, to the very pleasant serving staff. I have never had scallops before and they were delicious and the belly pork and accompaniments were the best I have ever had. The only negative to report was as they were so busy the staff unfortunately were rushed off there feet and we waited endlessly for dessert eventually just paying at the bar as didn't want to wait any longer.Would recommend to go at a quiet time or that they employ more excellent staff

4 of us went to Fleur du Jardin for their Quidsin Pimms and Grazing platter in the garden which was basic. We then moved into the restaurant for an early main course meal and ordered a bottle of their Chilean white 'house' wine which when tasted was at room temperature. We asked the waitress for another 'chilled' bottle and on checking, she did her best, reported they were all the same, even after checking in the bar! We asked if there was another similar white wine which was chilled and was told there wasn't so we waited patiently while it eventually chilled in it's plastic water and ice filled bucket. However, by the time we are able to drink the wine we had half finished our one course so needless to say we weren't too impressed. Have to say the main course was good and the service, baring this blip, was friendly and efficient. However, instead of ordering a second bottle and possible a pudding we left feeling a bit annoyed they had no 'chilled' wine on offer. We are local and will return but felt embarrassed as this could happen with overseas visitors who will definitely not be impressed, shame as the hotel has a lot to offer but there is no excuse for not having chilled wine available!

17th-Century country Inn, lots of charm and warmth. Very busy restaurant recommended by "The good Hotel Guide", "Michelin Dining out in Pubs Guide", "CAMRA traditional real Ale Guide" and many others.
