Fantastic location. The brief to my wife for my 40th Birthday trip was to go somewhere that enabled us to "get away from it all" - this place absolutely delivered against that!
The rustic-ness of the facilities was hugely appealing to us, acknowledging in advance that it wasn't the sort of high-spec finishing that we'd normally expect. Aside from broken glass front on the bedroom log burner (only one burner - in the main bedroom now.. still works fine though), everything was functional and fun. You need to take bottled water but everything else works fine.
The storage heaters really heat the place up and the kids loved running around the fort, grounds and nearby beaches / islands, pretending that it was their kingdom - which it was! There are no internal corridors but, again, this just adds to the 'back to nature' feel of the place.
And the location is just absolutely amazing. A full 360 degree view, with breathtaking features in every direction. It was wonderful to look out over completely secluded bays and vistas from wherever you decided to locate yourself in this property.
Accept that you're not going to have high-end luxury and you'll have an amazing time in a once-in-a-lifetime kind of place.

We have stayed in Jersey Heritage properties before and had a brilliant time. We thought we would try Fort Leicester as our original choices were already booked. We booked via the internet. As usual easy booking and payment, all details, driving instructions etc emailed quickly. The pictures on the internet were very small so could not see that the property was in two different buildings and this was not said on the Jersey Heritage website. We knew that all rooms were externally accessed which did not cause any problems, it was quite funny having to go outside to the loo in the middle of the night! With the bedrooms being in a separate building this proved difficult with a young child as you can't hear them if they call once they are in bed and can't see if they have got up and gone outside. The other thing that was not mentioned is that the water supply is from a bore hole, and the water is unfit to drink, so, we had to buy bottled water. This may not have stopped us booking but we had already done our food shop before we got there. At night the seagulls are very noisy and if there are night fishermen on the quay the noise carries up to the bedroom, this would only effect you if you are a light sleeper. We did have some young lad hold his own memorial service to Amy Winehouse at 0100hrs one evening which woke me up. All in all this is a good experience for a couple or family with older children.

Staying at Fort Leicester was truly an amazing experience. Its location provided breathtaking views and a chance to step back in history.
The Fort was very clean and all appeared to be fitted out recently so whilst the exterior of the Fort appeared old the interior of the property was lovely and new.
Something I did not expect was that the rooms, living area and bathroom are not in any way connected. So you do need to walk outdoors to access the different areas of the Fort but this all adds to its charm. Also it is slightly out of town however given the island is quite small, this wasn't a problem. But of course you do need a car.
My friends and I truly loved staying at Fort Leicester. It will be a weekend we never forget!
