My wife and I plus son, his wife and two boys 18mths and 4+ stayed there last week for 3 nights. We were aware of the poor reviews in the past but knew that the hotel recently changed hands and some improvements had already been carried out. We had a good price for a double plus a family suite, both the rooms were good - clean, comfortable, spacious, a little dated but suited us and the family. The family suite had two rooms plus an enormous bathroom, both rooms had a sea view. The hotel bar and restaurant both overlooked Bouley Bay and there are lots of tables in both rooms from which you could enjoy one of the best views I have ever seen from any hotel. The bar and restaurant were well decorated and furnished, meals and wine were reasonably priced and breakfast was excellent. Next to the hotel there is pub which has the same owners as the hotel but has different managers. It has plenty of character and offers more informal drinking and dining. We felt this was better suited for us in the evenings with the children and also the pub offered free meals for children between 6.00 and 7.00pm. Bouley bay has a pebble beach it can be accessed from just outside the hotel entrance but there are 30 steps down to the beach, alternatively there is a path to the right of the hotel which gives easier access. On this path there is a very active diving school and an excellent snack bar called Mad Mary's. The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful and service in the bar and restaurant were excellent.

There are still some areas of the hotel which need improvement especially the pool area which we think should have been closed. The paintwork outside needs some more work and our rooms, although acceptable, need more updating. BUT overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the positives far outweighed the negatives and I'm sure the new owners will be continuing to improve the facilities. Make sure you have a hire car. We'd go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. If you are a family with young children the family suite was ideal.

Management are nice enough and friendly. I think they are trying hard to bring the place up to standard and Im sure they will get there. In the mean time the hotel seems tired and scruffy. The communal areas are excellent - beautiful dining room and foyer - but the rooms really need some money spent on them. Our room had stains on the carpet and wallpaper peeling off the wall. The bed was the most uncomfortable I have slept in - very soft - and there was a hard ridge down the middle where 2 singles had been pushed together but didnt fit very well! I found lots of hairs on the bathroom floor and in the bath when we first arrived and also some short, dark hairs in the travel cot! Not very nice. Also, the travel cot was rickety and unafe and the mattress was smaller than the cot. The mattress was paper thin. Result was that our baby would not sleep in it and ended up in our bed, lying on the ridge in the middle! We requested a different cot but the onw we got was still a travel cot - no good for a 20 month old to sleep in for 4 days! They really need to invest in some proper cots with proper mattresses. It felt as if they didn't want to encourage couples with young kids. Because of the lack of proper bed for our daghter we had to have her in with us and take turns to have her on one side so she wasnt on the ridge - cue 4 nights with hardly any sleep. We could only get a few channels on the TV and these kept going off. Plus the travel kettle was a pain in the bum because the lead hung down the back of a very large, heavy dresser and it was too short. So in order to pour the kettle you had to move the dresser to unplug the kettle. I couldnt move the dresser on my own so this did start to really annoy me. Why not a cordless kettle? None of these negative aspects were particularly serious but added together it all became a bit wearing. Breakfasts were ok, the toaster did not work on any of the 4 mornings we ate there. It either did nothing or burnt the bread to a crisp. The orange juice came in tall wine glasses which were too tall to get under the juice machine. Cold meat and cheese did not look nice and the hot food was quite greasy/sloppy. Again, small things but the overall result was that breakfast was just ok, when it could have been really nice with a little thought. Also the high chairs were filthy and looked like they had come straight off the ark. Some newer ones (and new cots!) wouldnt go a miss. In general the entire hotel felt very child-unfriendly - especially the pool area which was not clean and needed a good overhall. The baby pool wasn't even working so we never got to use the pool area (the main reason we booked this hotel). It was quite annoying actually that the picture on the hotel website is of a beautiful pool area complete with waterfall. In reality it looked nothing like that and was very scruffy. On a positive note, the fine dining was excellent and the service was faultless. The lounge bar was spotless, modern and comfortable, with beautiful views of the bay. We had a few nice bar meals in the Black Dog Pub, where the staff were very friendly and efficient. Our room was made up every day and we couldnt fault the housekeeping. The setting is stunning and I think with a few tweaks and some money spent updating those tired, scruffy bedrooms, this could be a really nice hotel. I wouldnt recommend it for families travelling with young children though, as the pool area just didnt feel safe and there is nothing else for kids to do here. We were so glad we had a car or else we would all have been bored rigid. The Waters Edge will probably appeal more to the older crowd who are happy to relax on the terrace and just enjoy the view.

Room Tip: Third floor or higher is best

My mum & I stayed here for a 4 night break whilst travelling around Jersey. We'd hired a car to visit all the places during our stay & it was very handy that this hotel has plenty of space for parking. Beautiful location with gorgeous views of the bay or of the lovely established gardens.
When we checked in we found out we'd been upgraded, free of charge, from 2 x single rooms overlooking the garden to 2 x large double rooms with sea views! Stunning rooms with small balconies but big enough to sit & have a drink, Big beds, TV & tea/coffee making facilities, plenty of cupboard space/draws/wardrobes & a large bathroom. The reception staff were very helpful, always cheerful & happy to help with any queries or questions. We stayed on Bed & Breakfast & the restaurant was located with again, wonderful views over the bay, we shall miss that in the mornings at home! Plenty of choice for breakfast with full English, cheese & meats, cereals, yoghurts, croissants & pastries. We would certainly recommend this hotel for any one visiting Jersey. When we stayed it was quiet & relaxing which was what we wanted after a busy day of driving & walking about. The hotel was airy & spacious, there is a lift available to all floors. There is a small pool, it is heated outside & a fab roof terrace with lots of tables & chairs to sit & have a drink or a read whilst the sun sets. Very pretty established gardens to walk around & the pub attached next door is certainly worth a visit for a nice meal. I would return to this hotel without a doubt.

Room Tip: Sea views or garden views.

I am always one for watching places like this, that have had bad reviews then work hard to repair the damage. Firstly this place is excellent and if you are looking for a quiet hotel for a relaxing break then stay here while the prices are lower to get customers back in the door. It won't last. Staff and food are excellent. Whilst I'm sure some areas are still needing some attention I think this hotel will very soon go up on the star ratings and expired reviews long forgotten. Well done all at the Waters Edge and please keep up the good work.

My husband & I stayed here for 9 glorious nights . The staff are extremely friendly & very helpful on advising us where to go on the island , this was our first time to Jersey , we would definitely stay here again & recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it. For a 3 star hotel it is the best we have ever stayed in, the restaurant is beautiful & the food is of 5 star standard , the waiters take care of you amazingly well. Sitting eating our dinner every night looking out to the beautiful Bouley bay is something very special. This hotel , it's staff & Jersey have given us a wonderful holiday to remember .
