“Good value for money, fantastic stay!”
Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

We booked a mid week deal with Jersey travel service and picked the hotel as the price was fantastic, the reviews were great and the amenities looked first class. On arrival the check in was promt and we were given discount vouchers for both the restuarants.
The rooms were clean, modern and comfortable. We dined in Bonettie's that evening and the food and service were top notch! Breakfast was buffet style with something for every taste. It was aslo very good quality produce witch cannot be easy when catering for so many people. We tried the evening buffet and again it did not dissapoint! There is a different theme each night.
The swimming pool was every bit as good as the pictures suggest.
The location is good too, only s few minutes walk from the town centre.
We have a wonderful time and plan to go back soon.

Usually the term Family Hotel conjures up visions of grubby rooms, fast food and lots of uncontrollable kids, but actually the Merton was really nice. We stayed as a family of 4 for 4 nights in 3 rooms in the main hotel and found the rooms to be nice and clean, the breakfast excellent and the staff helpful. The pool area was also good and our teenagers loved the wave rider. The town is a 15 minute walk. We had a look at the suites which were lovely but I don't think would have been suitable for a family with 2 older teenagers. We would have no hesitation in staying here again

Stayed here for four nights just returned. Hotel itself was of a good standard except for the flocks of elderly people, advertised as family hotel but had saga holidays etc and found them to be quite rude towards younger people. Hotel staff were okay, not very helpful. 1st room smelt of smoke on arrival, called reception and were told housekeeping wouldn't be there until later on in night so nothing could be done. Went to desk as found this unacceptable with a young child and was offered a different room which was a massive downgrade from original room and still smelt funny? Stayed in original room! Staff in bonnetti restaurant were awful, food was served extremely hot with no warning and staff were very rude to guests. However the staff in main hotel restaurant were lovely and really tried to make the dining experience as pleasant as possible. All in all hotel was okay must just be when out of season it has a old people's home feel to it and certain staff need a lot of customer service training!

Thank you for your feedback. Although we are pleased that your overall impression of the hotel was good it is clearly disappointing to read some of the other comments. Firstly, I want to make clear that the Merton Hotel welcomes all guests. The hotel is popular with families, groups and couples both young and elderly and all are welcome although seasonality will depict when guests travel. We do have a strict policy on smoking anywhere within the hotel so disappointed to hear that your room smelt of smoke. We were particularly disappointed and surprised to hear your comments of the staff in Bonetti’s and will review this situation with immediate effect.

We stayed 5 days on a B & B basis . This was a lovely hotel, very clean, spacious, comfortable rooms - lovely to relax into after a day discovering the island. Only 2 of the restaurants available during our stay were open and no entertainment although this is provided during the summer.Extremely comfy beds ensuring a good nights sleep. Breakfast served in the Belvedere Restaurant was a feast for the eyes. Everything you could ever think of and more was provided - whether it be Continental, full English or just porridge or toast - it was all there!! We would occasionally be seated at the edge of the very large room even when it was not very busy and that could be in a draughty area. Waiters were all very friendly but a little quick to remove our plates even if only one person had finished eating and the other hadn't - it would have been nicer to wait for all parties to finish first. Even so, a lovely refreshing hotel.

I recently stayed at the Merton on a hen weekend which was fine, as we weren't in the hotel much more than just to sleep and get ready to go out. This hotel caters for lots of groups of sports teams, hen parties etc (or so it seemed from what I saw of it) as well as lots of kids (due to the pool facilities) but there was also a feel of an old people's home to the place!

There wasn't really anything wrong with the hotel but it wouldn't be somewhere I'd rush back to for a romantic weekend. Breakfast was pretty average and we did feel a bit rushed.

Overall it's good as a base as near town (10 minute walk) but it's a bit dated for my taste.

We have stayed many times at the Merton. We have always been met with kind and pleasant staff. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We have found that the family suites are worth paying extra as there is more space and perfect for a family of four. Only disappointment was when we wanted to take another child and told the hotel could not fit another bed in for us so had to book another room as well - expensive operation! The hotel is situated within walking distance of St. Helier. It has children's clubs, gardens, open air and indoor swimming pools and two restaurants - one is a superb carvery and the other is an admirable Italian restaurant where the staff are very conscientious and kind to kids. For those of older years the hotel is superb with pleasant seating areas although this could benefit from more seats as there is never enough in the evenings in the bars. During the summer season the hotel offers evening entertainment and a dance floor. We have always been well looked after at the Merton and this is now our preferred hotel in Jersey. My grumble now is that in recent years the prices have risen sharply and I believe this is reflected in the falling numbers out of main seasons.

Room Tip: Quietest areas are overlooking gardens

Just returned on Monday 6th may fromthe Merton hotel 10 mins walk from main shopping area and Marina and seafront . Excellent food all served buffet style a very good selection of salads and a carvery every night plus a good selection of very good seafood evening entertainment most evenings in the star bar . Nice areas inside and outside to sit and have a drink or just relax in the sun. On opposite side of the road to hotel is the hotels swimming and spa complex it has an indoor and outdoor pool and spa as the weather was very warm we were able to use the outdoor pool which was really nice . The staff at this hotel are excellent very smart very polite and very quick at serving you and clearing the tables . Also the hotel reception staff are very good as we had a problem with our first room that was joined to the lift so was very noisy so we asked to be moved which was done with our any problems . We had a 3 night break at this hotel and would go back and stay a bit longer next time .a very good hotel that I would recommend highly to all ages as it even has a kids club for family's .

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with sea view or a garden room and not near the lift .
