“Seemed more like heaven than hell to us”
Reviewed May 17, 2008

Obviously, when booking a package holiday one does have to take the selected hotel very much on trust. However, having used the holiday company before, we were confident that in taking the cheaper of the two options offered we would not be disappointed. Indeed, we finished up delighted with what we found. All the staff were helpful and pleasant, but the reception staff must be singled out as “excellent plus plus”, because of the way they dealt with our particular enquiries — going “the extra mile” to give us the special information we required — information which entailed looking something up on the internet for us and nothing concerning the hotel itself. And having found the info. the lady immediately brought it up to our room personally. Can anyone beat that for service!
The rooms were clean, in good decorative order and as good, if not better in terms of furniture, than those in more expensive hotels we have stayed in. Only one minus as far as we were concerned was that the shower lacked grab handles which are essential for partially disabled people as we are.
We could not fault the food. Breakfast was everything one could wish for — plenty of variety whether one chose a cooked one or just cereal and toast, etc. The evening menus were excellent in our opinion — all imaginatively conceived without going “over the top” — good wholesome food.
Overall, we would say the hotel is excellent value for “down to earth” people seeking good holiday accommodation rather than “The Ritz”. We would agree that this hotel is more suitable for older folk than for the younger age range.

It was an OK hotel, not grand by any means but an average place. We were lucky, ours had a brand new bathroom, the bedroom was a little shabby but the sheets were clean and towels also and regularly changed. 10 minute walk to the town and a few nice restaurants nearby. For the price it was good value.

Stayed in Feb with my family including my mother in law!. Had a great holiday, the staff are very helpfull, as can be seen from the reiview title the place is a little on the tatty side, but the staff and food more than make up for it.

Read some mixed reviews prior to booking, but was told by `Channel Escapes` that it had been refurbished, so took a chance. Oh Dear. Where do you start :-
1. No Central heating when we got to our suite !!!! No prospect of early repair so half the hotel were using plug in heaters.
2. The room was grubby, uneaten sweet found on chair.
Someone had wiped a crow from their nose on the toilet wall and that hadn`t been cleaned.
3. Shower trickled water out. Had to run round to get wet.
4. Every time we passed reception, someone was either complaining or getting their room changed.
5. Car park is a joke. You leave your keys with reception. Sadly we did the same. On the second night someone from hotel moved it and damaged it. Nobody owned up.
6. Food on first evening was rubbish so we ended up eating out for three nights. We were supposed to be on half board.
7. Apart from pleasant girl on reception (I note that on another review as well) most staff were foreign and didn`t seem to give a toss.
8. People at the table next to us found dirty tissues and porno mags under their bed. Ughh!!
9. On Friday night there was a fight on the car park and three people arrested. Also, they had a group of teenage rugby players staying for the night and they ran amok banging on doors and moving beds from room to room.
I could go on, but it would take an age.
Give this hotel a Miss !!!!!!!

My wife and I some years ago stayed at the Hotel De Mormandie
when it was a Walace Arnold Hotel and enjoyed it. So June 2006
we decided to stay again, this must now be the worst Hotel on
Jersey. The room was in great need of refurbishment. The bed
we had changed twice and then gave up, the paper was peeling off the walls, the carpet was badly stained and faded, the grouting round the bath I think had been done by a five year old,
the dirt round the toilet pipes was unbievable. The food was very poor and lots of people ccommented, the staff spoke very little
English. The only one that was any good was a young girl on reception , the duty manager was in jeans and tee shirt and not very helpful. I did write to the General Manager, and sent photo's . I was sent what looked like a letter photo copyed which
gave me the impression it was sent often to others.

our room was comfortable and clean, the shower was great.the bed was extremely, comfortable, the only downside to room was it really smelt of stale nicotine,so we bought some air fresheners.also they take the towels in the morning and dont replace them until the afternoon.we stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was always hot and cooked nice, there was a lot of polish staff there (would of been nice to have had channel isles staff)but they were all very polite and helpful.the hotel is an ideal location for bus trips as there is a bus stop out side, also it was a nice walk into town via the park
