“Superb All Round”
Reviewed May 4, 2011

This was not our first visit but what a surprise, the Bistro has a new look with fresh modern decor and upholstery,in the lounge were comfy leather sofas new decor and soft furnishings, our room in which we had stayed before boasted an antique brass bed new decor and a soft deep piled carpet all very tastefully done. The newly decorated bar and restaurant seemed to be bigger and was much brighter. Needless to say Simon and Jo and their staff were welcoming and helpful, the food was wonderful with full flavours and wide selections. This is the only Restaurant I have eaten in where the Chef is often seen chatting to the customers answering an array of cuisine questions. It is without doubt the best food we have eaten on the Island.

What a pleasure to return once again to this special place – miles away from bland chain hotels and overpriced boutique hotels that promise much with glamorous web sites (and usually disappoint!). This is a hotel as it should be: friendly, helpful service; outstanding food; and comfortable accommodation, in a setting that is simply amazing – on a quiet harbourside, with an imposing and fascinating castle directly behind, and with endless walks through quiet countryside and deserted beaches. It beats me why people fight to get to Cornwall and Devon on overcrowded roads when you can be sipping a chilled wine on the terrace of this hotel within two hours of leaving London. A special hotel, in an amazing location!

The Hotel is right by the harbour in Gorey and has lovely views from the upstairs rooms - our room was very comfortable; we looked out over the sea and the bay. All the staff were so helpful and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. We were assured of a great dining experience with varied menus and a superb chef to cook them. We really enjoyed our visit and hope to be able to return ...again and again. Thankyou to Jo and her husband and their staff.

this was my first visit to Jersey. My first impression was I was overwhelmed by the lovely room overlooking the harbour. the food was very very good. I had the Jersey porridge one morning for breakfast and it was delicious. I also ate at the Bistro and in the hotel for dinner and it was absolutely lovely food, perfectly cooked.

The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated in an excellent position. Bus service runs to time.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel and certainly be staying again.

We stayed seven nights in a nicely fitted out room with a good bathroom over looking a splendid view of Gorey Harbour and The Royal Bay of Grouville.
There’s a lot of coming and goings around the harbour with three bus routes stopping close by and much hire car parking, plus the coach trippers to the Orgueil Fort. The local yacht and harbour life is interesting to watch; and yet you can sit outside and eat and drink in a relaxed manner.
The management and service were so good that we upped from B&B to half board on the first day and returned for lunch on most days.
The layout and décor of the hotel was pleasing and comfortable with a quiet, first floor sitting room at the back, a bar and upper sun terrace.
The restaurant was excellent with enough choice on the menu, prepared with local produce and creatively presented in a cheerful way. The daily menu was very good value and really tasty. There is a variety of very drinkable wine at all price ranges. All the staff were always cheerful and exceedingly helpful.
Bottom line is that I was deeply saddened to leave and it has set the benchmark for hotel/restaurant happiness.

We echo the previous comments made over the past few months. Yes, the location is perfect...yes, the service is impeccable......yes, the food is to die for! The brulee porridge is decadently delicious, the fish is fantastic, the steaks are stupendous! We found the quality of food to be of a very high standard, and yet at a very reasonable price. We could not fault anything, and would highly reccommend anyone visiting Jersey to book at stay at The Moorings and/or to try the restaurant (booking advisable).

The second stay for us, this time with family, for which it was a first time stay, we were excited to see that the menu had changed, homemade sorbets were a new addition full flavoured and smooth, the Seafood Tasting Plate boasted a wide selection, smoked mackerel and salmon, prawn, cockles, crab and oyster absolutely superb, lamb shank that melted in the mouth, and a creme brulee with buttery shortbread a treat indeed. The food was delicious once again, this time with a spell of fine weather we sat outside overlooking the harbour, the service still great and we will be back again later in the year.
