“Exceptional experience”
Reviewed December 19, 2007

Having been to Jersey on many occasions, my husband and I decided that it would be nice to go there for a break before Christmas. We also decided to take my husband's uncle and aunt as they had never been to Jersey.
We were due to stay for 5 days 4 nights, but as we were due to travel on the ferry and due to bad weather this was cancelled so we only had 4 days and 3 nights.
There was transport arranged to take use to the hotel, and after registering and given our room number we went to find our room. It happened to be on the 4th floor, but this didn't worry us as the hotel had excellent lift service to all floors. On entering our room my husband looked into the en-suite and said that it would not suit me - I had a hip operation last year and still get difficulty in getting in and out of the bath. I telephoned down to reception, and after explaining my situation, the lovely lady - Trish - on reception arranged for the porter to come to assist us to another room, which was on the 1st floor and had a walk-in shower.
This room was really 'stupendous' with all the usual items to make your stay in a hotel comfortable. We had a lovely nights sleep after spending some time in the entertainments lounge/bar. It was great to find that entertainment was laid on every night of our stay, and I must say how great it was to be entertained on our final night by a professional guitarist and harmonica player - Gary Palmer and Frank Neil.
The mealtimes were a real a pleasure, we had table service and the staff were really very friendly and attentive and the meals were hot and excellently served.
We had pre-booked a hire car - luckily for the 2 days we were there - and found that driving around Jersey to be very easy. As there were 4 of us it worked out much cheaper than going on arranged tours, as we could come and go as we pleased.
This is definitely one hotel I shall recommend highly.

Ideally situated within St Helier. Lots of old people in at the same time, making it difficult to get through corridors. Rooms very hot. Meals excellent value - although B & B we ate in. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would stay again if we return to Jersey.

On arrival the hotel was clean, presentable and well located in the town centre. We had a suite within the hotel which we used to our advantage with young children.
The facilities at the hotel were very good, the pool area was clean and attractive. the bar was convieniently located next to the restaurant where both facilities were very well utililised.
We had ordered a suite which we found very comfortable, the bathroom and shower were outstandingly clean and the room had very nice touches of extras. (IE shampoo, soap tea-making facilities etc...) The other facilities at the hotel, mainly the games room and small childrens play area were a little small due to the size of the hotel. The silver service restaurant and food served were of a very high standard and would recommend . However some negatives to take into consideration, the hotel`s entertainment programme is more suited to the over 55 age group. there is bingo every night for an hour from 8.30 to 9.00pm before the evening`s entertainment starts at 10.00pm and finishes at 11.00pm.. just in time for it`s majority of cstr`s to have their nightly cup of cocoa before retiring to bed.
We stayed on the second floor where we found the hotel extremely warm and many guests were complaining of the same thing. Overall a very nice hotel catering mainly for the elderly guests.

Huge hotel, but very friendly - staff always very obliging. Food pretty basic, but fine on the whole, unless you're vegetarian. Veggie options were a bit grim. Kids very welcome.

We booked our stay at the 11th hour and had reservations given the comments made by other visitors. However, we had a very enjoyable stay on a B & B basis.
Our triple room was very adequate, cleaned daily and quiet being on the side of the hotel - no real view but we didn't spend much time in our room.
Breakfast was again okay with the waiters very obliging when my son wanted to vary the cooked breakfast on almost a daily basis. However, my wife says avoid the scrambled eggs on toast.
There were plenty of older people in attendance but my 12 year old son found one or two friends who spent the majority of their spare time on the free Internet screens in reception.
The bar staff were very helpful with the Head Barman suggesting places to eat in Jersey as we had only booked B & B. The taxi driver from the airport was also very informative during the £13 journey.
The weather was super and whilst we did use the internal pool an outside pool would have been useful.
All in all no real complaints and we would visit the hotel again when visiting Jersey.

  • Liked — Free Internet Access for our son
  • Disliked — No outside pool - evening entertainment was poor
