“Depressing and smelly.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013 via mobile

Was put in this hotel after my flight was cancelled so I wasn't paying for it but if I was, I would have asked for my money back. The food was terrible, there was an awful smell everywhere and my room was incredibly dated and hot.

My wife and myself with another couple have just had a lovely stay at the Metropole Hotel. This is our second stay this year and once again we stayed in rooms 127 and 124. The rooms were kept very clean, towels were changed every day, but I would say that duvets would be better than the brown blankets. The food was good and our waiter, Orlando, was excellent, but had too many tables to look after. The poolside cafe wasn't very good, due to the staffs' couldn't care less attitude. However, the receptionists were very helpful and obliging. We look to a return visit early next year.

My wife and I stayed for 10 nights 31/8 to 10/9. Checked in very quickly by very friendly Receptionists. This friendliness by them and the rest of the Staff was most noticeable during our stay. Room 127 could not really be faulted , very clean and kept clean and quite big enough for the 2 of us - tiled bathroom with a long, long ledge for Toiletries. Good showers once one worked out how to use it! Comfortable beds but could do with Duvets rather than brown blankets!
Food - generally very good (especially Breakfast) but some evening Veg a lttle bland and uninviting. Waiter Service - Fernando had 40 odd residents to look after and did a splendid job, very friendly and efficient!
Pool Area - OK but watch the tiles! Jacuzzi great.
Snack Bar - wide range of snacks and what Club Toasties! - all most reasonably priced.
Yes, as previously stated in other reviews, the clientele were of Pensioner Age(like us) and perhaps to the detriment of younger travellers but everyone appeared to be enjoying their stay and were very friendly.
Altogether a good 3 Star Hotel and we much appreciated the Managements gesture of providing us with 2 bottles of Champagne to help celebrate Anniversary and Birthday during our stay.

Room Tip: Ground Floor on side - Room 127 for example.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights from 30 August 3 September 3 Adults with two rooms. The rooms were clean and tidy and large, we were situation in 12 and 18. From the minute we walked into the hotel the staff were outstanding, I mentioned it was my birthday and when I returned to my room there was a chilled bottle of champagne. The food was brilliant we were on a bb only but ate there every night for £16.50 pppn four courses. Not a place for teenagers too quiet. I had recently broken my leg and the staff were fantastic. Jersey as a whole is a peaceful place with many pensioners but perfect when you are on crutches. Overall a really lovely hotel with brilliant friendly staff.

The Metropole has some of the best staff I have come across. From the reception on arrival, to room staff, catering staff and bar staff, nothing was too much trouble. There is a very high standard of cleanliness throughout and good attention to detail. Our room faced the swimming pool and whilst children were evident, by 1930 hours, all was closed down leaving a very quiet aspect. Two small criticisms with the room, the kettle didn't fit under the tap and no wi fi. Computers are provided free for customer use at reception and wi fi is available at ground level. However most now expect access from rooms as tablets and smart phones are so prolific. The gym, and spa facilities are clean, constantly staffed and a very nice touch with towels and matresses for the sunbeds, gratis. The in house cafe is reasonably priced and the standard of food is very good. The hotel is near enough town for a level walk to the shops and all the local amenieties. Most trips can be ordered at reception with collection and return outside the door. Local busses are frequent around the island and are very cost effective. The food at the hotel was excellent and a good varied menu showed the head chef in good light. This would definately be my first choice should we return again to Jersey.

Room Tip: The rooms to the rear of the hotel are very quiet, however are a decent walk for the less able.

The Metropole was clean, comfortable and very friendly. We were given a large room with four single beds and a view of the garden. Rooms very clean indeed - I tipped my cleaner at the end of the week, and I do not usually. Rooms are not air condititioned and were uncomfortably warm in early evenings but soon cooled. Corridors and some central areas were a bit jaded. Tendancy (like many hotels) to pack all families together, so my children (who go to bed at 8:00) were kept up by those who allow theirs to run wild until gone 11:00.
Lounge and bar are very comfortable, can be difficult to get a table if you come later. Drinks prices reasonable. Dinner was £16.95 - and with so many excellent restaurants around at much lower prices we choses not to.
Breakfast window was a bit narrow (8:00 - 9:30) and resulted in a bit of a scrum for cereals, fruit and juice. A choice of cooked breakfasts were brought to table by staff, as were tea, coffee and toast. These were of a good standard. We were offered an early breakfast on departure day, but the waiter was grumpy about providing it which was very disappointing given the high standard of the rest of the staff.
Children's activities were organised for every night.
Pictures of gym clearly show running machine, but there was not one during our stay. Both indoor and outdoor pools, small but nice.
Car park is small and tight. People get around this by double parking. Hotel tries to manage this by asking for keys - but people ignore this and block you in. Watch this on departure day!
On the whole a very good hotel. I would be keen to stay again.

Overnight stay in attic room which was of very poor standard, small and cramped. As a double room it was totally inadequate. Mattress on bed extremely hard. Rough army type blanket. Got very little sleep unable to get comfortable. Only one hand tower in shower room. Plastic electric kettle had turned yellow with age. Tepid water from shower. Broken bathroom window so did not close. Pigeons x 2 came in thru open window at 5.30 am and flew around room - one flew into the mirrow and around the room so presumably used to coming in. Bedside telephone did not work when trying to contact reception. On top floor with only partial access by lift, which had a 'broken' notice taped to it. tho porter used it when transporting myself and luggage to the room. He suggested keeping window open to air the room which smelt stale - from this deduced that not in regular use.
Restaurant area had tables in rows like a holiday camp or third rate Harry Potter eating refrectory, all clumped together. Surly service at breakfast and regimented attitude when told where to sit.
Altogether not a place to be recommended at all - saw and complained to Manager who looked 'burned out' - he apologised and made note of the issues but appeared complacent about the state of my experience. Only plus was the chef made a good vegetarian meal for me, not on the menu, for dinner. Mercifully only a one night stay. Any longer would certainly warrant a change of hotel as the environment was negative, down to the very chlorinated smell from the indoor pool - clearly a sign that a lot of urine in the water, as this activates the chlorine to compensate. Green council refuse wheeley bin in use for used towels by the pool, which gave a definite unsavoury impression.
Fellow traveller in next room reported finding a pubic hair in the bedding and requeested change of room - solo traveller - relocated to room overlooking kitchens with early morning noise and smells.
Other 4 fellow travellers put up in the Mayfair by the airline reported having a similar uncomfortable time of things.
Do think very carefully before booking either of these hotels!

Room Tip: Ensure in modern wing of hotel and definitely not on the top floors. All decoration old fashioned a...
