“Comfortable, friendly staff, hassle-free... good option for Jersey”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

I stayed for 2 nights for a business trip. On my previous trips to Jersey I stayed at the Radisson, but I fancied a change for this trip, and the Grand didn't disappoint. Excellent value for money.
Positives:
- Very friendly staff. Attentive and very obliging.
- Room quality and specification. modern, clean and smart with everything you'd need (including iron/ironing board, tea/coffee facilities etc.). The shower was very spacious. Really no complaints about the room - I slept very well on both nights.
- Location. Easy access to St Helier for business meetings, and to/from the airport. Seafront location useful for running in the mornings.
- Parking. Has parking spaces available so it's hassle-free if using a hire car.
Negatives:
- Swimming pool being refurbished. I'd made the reservation on booking.com so hadn't seen that the swimming pool was closed. This was disappointing as it was a key reason for choosing this hotel. They offered free vouchers to the nearby public pool which was a nice gesture but clearly it's not as convenient as using a hotel pool.
- Room service. I thought the £5 tray charge for room service was a bit excessive - better to charge this as a percentage of total food value.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for your review of Grand Jersey, I am pleased to hear that your enjoyed your stay with us. We at Grand Jersey take great pride in our work and service and use all feedback such as yours to constantly adapt and improve guest experience. I appreciate your comments regarding the current situation with our pool facilities - this area was in need of essential works and whilst we know this is an inconvenience and disappointment to our guests and members, unfortunately it does need to be carried out. The complimentary voucher for use of a nearby pool is a gesture of goodwill which has been very well received by our guests and gym members.

Thank you again for your review and for choosing Grand Jersey Hotel and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards,

Eamonn

Not my first time staying here but once again had a great time. We stayed for a wedding the staff were brilliant as usual and my room was okay although in future would rather have a sea facing or park view one as once you have those, as I have previously its a bit dark to come back to.

Food was fab at the wedding absolutely brilliant venue for a wedding with all rooms presented immaculately.

Unfortunately the pool was closed for refurbishment and we didn't find out about this until after I had booked and paid but just one of those things.

Room Tip: Definately try and get a park view room I think they are the best

My husband and I went for Sunday lunch, we got a deal on quids in so it was £30.00 for two and not each. The staff were friendly and left you too it. The food itself was ok, only one choice of soup and then rest was cold starters, a few more hot options would of been nice. The main course was nice although it was mixed vegetables which was a bit of a let down. the puddings were nice although a few looked shop bought, not what you expect of a five star hotel. All in all it was ok but I wouldn't pay £30 each but for £30 per couple it was about right

We had a long weekend here for our 25th wedding anniversary & thought it was lovely.
The staff are really welcoming & polite. Very quick to respond to any requests. They upgraded us to a sea view for our anniversary which was a lovely touch.
The hotel is very close to St Helier, literally a 5 minute flat walk to either the main shops or across the road (plenty of pedestrian lights) to the Cineworld, Aquasplash, TGI Friday & Pizzahut. Beach is also directly opposite.
Turn left out of the hotel and there is a row of restaurants if you don't want to walk anywhere. Indian, little Italy, Bistro etc. If you like Thai, walk to the top of the road, turn right past the hospital & you will find Siam Garden - amazing food!
Breakfast buffet in hotel was lovely. Full cooked option, fruit & cheese etc, wide range of cereals, pastries & toast. I order porridge which was lovely (very tempted by the version made with cream but didn't go there!) Not sure what else you would want on a breakfast buffet. Staff great, topping up orange juice, tea's & coffees all the time.
Oh - & I can't speak for other floors, but 3rd is sound proofed! They had a wedding on the Saturday night, with full disco & we couldn't hear a thing! Curtains in rooms are also lovely & thick & block out all light - helpful for light sleepers.
Would definitely recommend staying here - & get a sea view if you can!

We only stayed for one night as we were away for weekend and had to move from The Yacht due to noise and the Grand said they had a suite available at £250 for the night and they did advise that there was a wedding on but we would not hear anything. Staff were pleasant but not to the standard that you would get in 5 star hotels to which we stay a lot and the suite - room 100 was spacious but had a funny smell to it and was not very clean, hairs in the bathroom and in fact bathroom could do with updating as it still has shower curtains which are very unhygienic in my mind. Cocktail lounge was nice and lunch there was good but the breakfast in the morning was a buffet style, even had to make your own toast and this is not what you expect in 5 star hotels, it should be cooked fresh to your order. There was this option on the menu but no one came to take our order. All in all a moderate 4 star but not 5 star and definitely needs a bit of TLC to bring it up to scratch! Think I will stick to The Atlantic which is a 4 star but service is impeccable and standards very high!!

Used a quids inn voucher for a buffer Sunday lunch. Service was good food was disappointing. Starter was reasonable. Main course was below average - no green vegetables and the beef tasted poached rather than roasted. Puddings were okay. I would have preferred to have spent the money on a decent carvery at a pub.

My sister lives in Jersey so have Visited many times over the years, during this years Xmas visit we decided to try the Grand. Started well we arrived at 10am and reception let us check in early, originally booked park view room but when we went up to our room it appears we had been upgraded as we were in a sea view room which was lovely. The room was nice, bathroom very tired and old looking but the worst thing of all is the creaky floorboards everywhere, esp the room above us, we were woken up at 5.30am every morning when the guests above us sounded as though they were dancing around there room it was creaking so much - not the relaxing sleep we had hoped for. I imagine it was a Lovely hotel in its day but it seems very tired and not up to 5 star standard, we have travelled a lot and stayed in other 5 star properties, It just seemed to be lacking something, it also did not feel particularly Christmassy, and on Xmas morning breakfast was in a different room which had no music or atmosphere. The actual food was of a great standard though, lots of choice and fresh. Also parking was bit of a pain has a small car park which was often full

Dear guest,

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at Grand Jersey. I am pleased that we were able to offer you an upgrade - this is a gesture we do like to offer our guests when we have availability. I take on board your point regarding the bathrooms - we are in fact refurbishing all of our sea-facing bathrooms in 2014. We have also just completed a redesign of our terrace, and refurbishment of our pool area is currently under-way. I am sure you can appreciate that due to the age and style of the building this can be extremely challenging.

I hope that you will decide to return to Grand Jersey in the future, and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Kind regards,

Eamonn
