“Grand on the outside, but....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2012

We stayed here for a 5 night break to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. We wanted a luxury hotel with spa and fine dining for the break. The spa was absolutely wonderful, we had 2 massage treatments, (fantastic), and made good use of the indoor swimming pool. The dining experience was truly 5 star, I always rate a hotel by it's breakfast and this was definitely one of the best I've ever tried. During our stay we tried 3 of the 4 dining areas that the hotel offers.

1. TASSILI - this is there Michelin star restaurant, the food was as you would expect, AWESOME.
2. VICTORIAS - fine dining in a very relaxed atmosphere, very attentive staff.
3. CHAMPAGNE LOUNGE - very relaxed but good food and drink

This is a good hotel, but not a great one. My reasons for this are the following:-
1. very limited parking, with 129 bedrooms & suites, but only parking for about 24 cars this is a first come first parked situation.
2. the room we had was a good size, but the bathroom was not designed for cat swinging. also very easy to soak the floor when having a shower.
3. the floorboards squeaked really bad when walking about, we must have disturbed the people below as we were disturbed by those above us.
We will return to Jersey, we will make use of the spa and restaurants, but I don't think we will stay at this hotel again (unless they spend some money on upgrading their rooms).

Room Tip: Sea view rooms do deliver on view but you have to accept some noise. Park view rooms also have noise...

Dear guest,

I always really appreciate it when guests give honest, constructive feedback so thank you for taking the time to do this - it is always considered, discussed and solutions are always tried to be found wherever and whenever possible.

Obviously I am delighted that you enjoyed your dining and spa experiences, but I was disappointed to read that you probably wouldn't choose to stay at the hotel again and I would very much like to be given the opportunity to discuss this with you further. Please feel free to contact me and we can discuss the negative aspects of your stay in more detail.

Kind regards,

Eamonn Elliott

We stayed at the Gramd Hotel with my 90 year old mother and had a very good experience. Situated right on the sea front and a short walk from St Helier and shopping it has an ideal location The staff were very attentive and took great care of mum who is blind. The rooms were very clean but not particularly spacious and there was a lack of any draws to store none hanging clothes. We had problems with the magnetic door keys that needed re-programming several times. The breakfast buffet was excellent. We would stay here again.

Dear Adam,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback your comments following your recent stay at Grand Jersey.

I am so pleased that overall you and your mother had a good experience with us, and I will pass your praise regarding the staff and the quality of the breakfast on to the relevant teams and departments - they are always so pleased to receive any recognition for their hard work and efforts.

I am aware that some of our room sizes are an issue and we are currently looking into increasing these in the foreseable future.

I hope that you will choose to stay with us again in the future and thank you once again for your feedback.

Kind regards,

We have just married and due to work commitments we didn't have time for a full-blown honeymoon, so opted to have a 3-night break at the Grand Hotel in Jersey. What a great decision - we had a fabulous suite overlooking the sea; my advance request for chilled champagne to be ready in the room was provided to perfection and the staff were accommodating and unobtrusive. The Spa facilities are lovely - we used the pool and steam room daily and found time for a full body massage and facial - all very relaxing. We would highly recommend Dorans restaurant which is just around the corner from the hotel - wonderful menu and very friendly staff. We also took in the Old Court House in St. Auben - a real delight if you are into your sea food :-)

Room Tip: Sea view is a must. If your budget can stretch, go for a suite.

For our 80th/84th birthdays decided to return to St Helier where we had enjoyed our honeymoon, but previous Hotel now demolished. Grand Hotel is glorious and the Staff were first class. Absolutely no complaint; only suggestion is to ensure cooked buffet breakfast is hot not only warm. Dinner Service and food was excellent. The St Helier and St Aubin Bays are tremendous and attractive for walking, several good visits including Underground War Tunnels, and we enjoyed a glorious holiday.

Room Tip: Sea View First Floor. Dinner inclusive terms are good value, although there are excellent restaurant...

We stayed at the Grand for a friends wedding this May.
When we arrived our room wasnt ready and apologies were given and a complimentary coffee.
The room was very nice, clean and there was a safe together with robes, slippers and coffee and tea making facilities.
There was also a water and ice machine on our floor so assume they were on every floor.
Loads of storage space though we were only there for 2 nights.
We didnt eat in the hotel apart from breakfast and although I am not a breakfast person there was an enormous choice so nobody would have gone hungry.
Location was great only a 10 minute walk into the main town.
The hotel was very clean throughout. The staff were amazing, very friendly, happy and smiley.
No complaints whatsoever.

Hi - we had a lovely time here! Hotel is right by the main dual carriage way but has great sea views. Rooms nice - we were lucky to get a sea view - but would specify that as the non sea view rooms can look over a dull courtyard with air conditioning pipes. Spa nice - but a bit dark. Breakfast great and staff all lovely. Nice champagne bar and outdoor bar/restaurant - although service a bit sketchy. St Helier is not the most beautiful of towns but is a good central location for exploring Jersey. Buses are great but don't get caught out by hoping to get the last bus back from St Brelade as will be full on a sunny day - but taxis are cheap!

My wife and I have just returned from a week at Grand Jersey St Helier. We had a thoroughly good time. The room and bathroom were a bit basic although it was a de luxe room with sea view. The sea-view was teriffic and the staff everywhere were always helpful, kind and considerate. They arranged a hire car for us and without question they always parked it for us in their carpark. The hotel food was brilliant and providing you didn't go in the posh restaurant, not too expensive. There were plenty of good restaurants within easy walking distance. The concierge would always ring the restaurant for us and arrange for us to eat out !!

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get a room with a sea view
