We stayed here on free Tesco points and so were not quite sure what to expect. We got upgraded to a four poster room with a huge jacuzzi.
We prefer a traditional style to modern minimalist and so loved the bar and restauarant areas. Free but limited parking was fine for the time of year. Would definbitely stay again.

I wanted to take my mum on a relaxing break and decided on this hotel. I had booked a twin room. We arrived mid morning, and after a very nice welcome by the reception staff, we were able to settle in straight away and were greatly surprised to see that we were accommodated in a suite. So there you go, from moment one it was good all the way.
What we liked : EVERYTHING:
About the hotel and room: location (7 minutes walk to centre Saint Helier), parking on site (it might not be the biggest parking I’ve seen but we found a place for our car every single time), room (room 225 is really lovely and quiet; even if it was a little far from the lift, still we needed the exercise after the wonderful breakfast), FAIRTRADE coffee & decaff in our room, lovely long bath tub (I'm 5"10). About the breakfast: just great, very tasty sausages, excellent pastries (pain au raisin just melts in the mouth), real flowers and tablecloths on tables (not plastic flowers and place mats). About the bar restaurant: just try the mussels in cream sauce! Just Lovely ! Last but not least, about the people : the professionalism, friendliness and courteousy of absolutely ALL the staff and management team.
And what a lovely thing to have this complimentary drinks on the Wednesday evening, allowing all residents, would they wish too, to meet and have a nice chat over a glass of bubbly.

Had (unfortunately) decided to change hotel during our holiday, to enjoy different qualities of hotels, thinking that the quality of 4-star Hotel de France could be better than the quality of the 3-star Best-Western Royal. WHAT A TERRIBLE MISTAKE !! We regretted our change as soon as we got to the reception of the 4 star.
Would any my friends wish to stay in Jersey, I would recommend Best Western Royal anytime.

Stayed at this hotel in September 2009 for 1 week the staff were very friendly ,our room was in the loft ,could do with updating. The breakfast was very basic and everyone was complaining about the toaster but the whole week nothing was done about it,It would have been nice to have more personal service in the restaurant quite a few elderly people were having to carry their breakfas/tea/coffee/cups etc up steps which was a little bit difficult.
While we were there we had a fire alarm at 6-30 in the morning and the staff were very professional fortunatly it was a false alarm so do harm done.

I have just got back this evening from this hotel and have to say it was very pleasant. The staff were all extremely pleasant, it was very clean, fab breakfast (we only went B+B as we love eating out in the evening) and as for the people on this site that said it was noisy, small and dated...Noisy? Not in our room. It was at the rear of the hotel and couldn't have been quieter. We even commented on how quiet it was and how "unsqueaky" the floorboards were! I've never slept so well. Small? Our room, 127, certainly wasn't small though some were a little small, but for the amount of time we actually spent in there, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. It was well appointed, clean and with very comfy beds. Dated? That's Jersey! Unless you stay in somewhere like the modern Club Hotel or the Radisson, you'll get this sort of hotel all over Jersey. The buildings are old and they do remind you a little of typical seaside resort hotels in England, but I have stayed in several hotels in St Helier and this one is well recommended. Very close to town. Even though there was only limited parking, there is a public car park one street away if the hotel facility is full and it's very cheap to park over there. Would go again.

We stayed at the Royal Hotel over August Bank Holiday. The hotel is traditional, staff are good, but rooms can be noisy.
We had read on Tripadvisor that it was advisable to request a room at the back of the hotel as rooms on the front can suffer from passing revellers in the evenings.
We duly requested connecting or adjacent rooms at the back of the hotel, and received a complimentary upgrade which was a very nice surprise. We had 2 adjacent rooms which were well equiped, clean and comfortable.
The first thing I should say is that rooms are incredibly difficult to find! The hotel is old and a bit of a rabbit warren, so finding your bearings can be difficult!
Secondly, whilst I'm sure that rooms on the back of the hotel are quieter than those on the front, the people who work at the car rental (?) business at the back of the hotel had not realised it was a bank holiday, and jet washed cars all over the bank holiday! Also, the staff exit to the hotel is situated at the back of the hotel, and when the staff are leaving the hotel in the wee hours they too can be noisy.
This aside, we ate lunch in the bar which was tasty and good value. Breakfast is an all you can eat buffet, well stocked, good variety, attentive staff. We had rooms service one evening. The room service menu is excellent, the food was delivered promptly, was hot, tasty and again good value.
A pleasant stay, the noise aspect being the only downside.

Being Islanders in need of some serious R&R we selected the Royal based on its spotless reputation on the Island and value for money. We were not dissappointed. The charm of this hotel was only surpassed by the standard of the service that we received from the ever attentive staff.

On an Island of stiff competition and 'boutique' hotels (many of which are overpriced) the Royal just went that extra mile to make our stay extra special.

Our stay was topped off with a fantastic meal in the hotel restaurant.

Thanks to all the staff, we'll be back!
