Surrey Lodge Guest House
Ranked #2 of 21 St. Helier B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 15, 2013

I stayed at Surrey Lodge Guest House in June 2013 with my mother. We chose a new guest house and found Surrey Lodge through the positive comments on here and we were not disappointed. We had a twin room on the second floor at the front. The room was tastefully decorated and had everything we needed (also spotlessly clean). The large fridge was a real bonus and was very useful to us and the free Penguin biscuits supplied were a treat!). Jean and Dave are very friendly and helpful and we felt very welcome. Breakfast was excellent, I particulary liked the large choice of jams/marmalade/black butter for my toast. The road the guest house is in is a side road off Bath Street which leads to the town centre. There are two convenience stores in the street and a chip shop a couple of doors down (we only had a bag of chips one evening but they were excellent). It is a fairly quiet road at night with no nightclubs nearby to disturb. We certainly slept well and the beds were very comfortable. I particularly liked the detailed weather forecast pinned to the notice board printed from the internet - a very thoughtful thing to do. It meant we could plan our day's activities better. There were a large number of leaflets in the hallway, along with the bus timetables. If we return to Jersey in the near future we would love to return to the Surrey Lodge - excellent service and good value for money.

Jean and David provide a really warm welcome on arrival at Surrey Lodge. They had already provided us with details of an Airport Transfer Service provided by Tantivy Coaches and this was a cheap and efficient method of getting both to and from Surrey Lodge. Our room was at the front of the house with window boxes in full flower and the ensuite was plenty big enough. The room was pleasant and airy with tea and coffee making facilities and Penguin biscuits provided! A wall mounted flat screen tv enabled us to watch our favorite soap before embarking on our first night out. There are plenty of leaflets available in the hall giving details of restaurants and all other local attractions. Jean or Davewill also advise.
Breakfast, cooked by Dave and served by Jean, consisted of fruit juice and cereal followed by a choice of cooked breakfasts with toast and a choice of beverage. There was plenty on the plate and the accompaniments varied daily. The bacon was particularly tasty and the eggs were clearly farm free range from the taste and orange yolk.
We stayed three nights and slept soundly with no disturbance. The dining room in a morning was a buzz of inter- table conversation as we all compared notes about our previous day's activity or choice of evening restaurant. On our last morning when collected by Tantivy Coaches Jean and Dave waved us off as if we were departing friends rather than paying guests....we felt really special!
Thank you for your wonderful hospitality at a very economical price.

Surrey Lodge is VERY CENTRAL and extremely convenient for the traveller like ourselves without a vehicle. We would happily stay again should we return to Jersey. The outside of the property is festooned with hanging baskets and looks particularly attractive.

Room Tip: We were in Room 1and loved it!

We stayed during half term with our two daughters and parents on law. The hosts were welcoming and very helpful throughout our stay. As one of our daughters was studying all week we were lent a desk and she was able to stay in all day. The guest house is very close to the shops and all amenities. The hosts recommended several eating places and activities which were all excellent.

Many thanks to Jean and Dave for providing 4 Bath Witches with very clean, comfortable and convenient accommodation in the beautiful island of Jersey! We were treated to delicious, varied breakfasts which were cooked to perfection by Dave and served by the ever attentive Jean. Dave and Jean are very friendly and helpful hosts, nothing was too much trouble for them and their years of experience in the hotel trade was evident. We very much hope to return!

We booked this B&B above hotels based on the previous reviews. The owners are a lovely couple, nothing is too much trouble, the breakfasts are superb and not skimped either.
Parking can be a problem as can getting a table in a restaurant without a booking on a Saturday evening, but the chippy along the street is to be recommended in such instances.
We wii return here.

Room Tip: Room 3 has the large bed. Others may have but I didn't ask. It is on the 2nd floor at the front...

Totally agree with other reviews. We stayed for 4 nights October half term week. Good central location in St Helier, we were made to feel welcome, our rooms were clean and comfortable, excellent cooked breakfast, accommodated my daughters dislikes (no tomatoes no mushrooms extra sausage). Jean & Dave always asked about our day, recommended places to eat. We had evening flight home and was able to leave our luggage at the guest house while we did some last minute shopping.

We had a lovely 5-night stay here, enjoying the genuine and friendly welcome which is provided by Jean & Dave. Their guest house ticks all the boxes .. excellent location within St Helier, clean and tidy, well cooked breakfasts, a very helpful and flexible approach whenever possible to help their guests. Plus lots of the little extras that go to make a stay that much more fun .... a wide selection of teas, marmalades, different types of milk available, plenty of useful brochures on local attractions and helpful personal recomendations as to places to eat etc. We also enjoyed the availability of a comfortable downstairs guest lounge to use at any time of the day. Recommended for a friendly and relaxing place to stay
