Miramar Hotel
Ranked #15 of 16 Hotels in St. Brelade
Reviewed July 26, 2011

Good points: Its position - a 10 minute walk (down a very steep hill, so need to be fit to get back up!) down to beautiful St Brelades beach front. The view from our small window (room 231) was beautiful. Other than the manageress, the staff seemed polite and helpful. The hotel was dog-friendly, and one of the reception staff very kindly gave our dog a treat.

Bad points: Where to start! This is obviously a hotel for older, chain-smoking, heavy- drinking people from the north of England. I was treated with great disdain after I politely asked the manageress if we could have another room, because our first smelt so heavily of smoke (including the bed linen). She proceeded to very rudely ignore me for the rest of our stay (she did not utter a word to me throughout the whole checkout procedure). The breakfast was awful. A greasy (and small) fry-up with little choice offered. The bed was extremely uncomfortable - a cheap thin mattress and very poor quality pillows.

Very Clean hotel with gorgeous views, friendly staff, very quiet to sit around the grounds, the only thing is, it is a bit out of the way unless you can actively walk or you dont mind getting buses. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay meals were good.

The staff of this family-owned hotal can't do enough for guests. The waitresses actually RUN to serve customers! There is a good range of food & plenty of it. A short walk (down a steep slope) takes you to a lovely sandy beach with cafes & shops & a pretty Parish Church at one end of the bay. The bus stop is at the top of a short length of road with buses to St Helier every 15 minutes, or so. Less than a mile away is a medium-size M&S, plus large newish Waitrose. The post office is in the good value co-op close by.
The only small problem was the variable temperature of the shower in the morning, but the owners do warn about the low water pressure at peak times. They ask guests to try to avoid peak times, but that's difficult.
All in all, we had a great week & would go back any time.

this was our 3rd stay at the miramar. was as delightful as 5 and 8 yrs ago respectively. the only downside this time was that we were on the ground floor and had a lot of noise from above early am and late pm. otherwise room kept very clean, staff lovely and friendly, they even arranged a boat trip to guernsey at our request -doing breakfast at 7am. food excellent -cereals small portions and had to ask for extra toast and bread every day which was not a problem to them as they were very accomodating. two of us were vegetarians but we found plenty of choice and if not they would provide an alternative.good choice of food to order during the day aswell. lovely views of the sea from the dining room and conservatory. garden well kept but pool too cold to enjoy. good parking outside for hire cars. we feel that although only considered a 2* hotel we believe it more than matches ANY of the supposedly superior hotels on the island for a happy and comfortable holiday. met some nice friends aswell.

Room Tip: ask for sea views and top floor

my second trip to jersey, staying at the miramar hotel st brelardes bay. I was on a short break with my mother, we took a taxi from the airport and it took less then 10 mins and cost £8. The hotel is just a short walk downwards from the main road but set back enough so no noise, and is an ideal location for those wanting to take a bus from the airport as the bus is number 15 and drops off at the end of the road. The hotel has its own small car park, pleasent first appearance all looks well kept. Inside small reception, we requested ground floor room which was granted and we'd only booked 1 week before travel. The room was a twin with a side view of well tended gardens .Room itself very clean again well maintained not the most modern in appearance but very comfortable neverthereless dark wooden bedroom furniture. Good shower although water not hot until about 7am(tried and early shower about 6am) but this didn't cause a problem. hair dryer, small flat screen tv.comfy bed.
we stayed half board waitress service was good not to have to keep getting up !! jucice cereals and cooked breakfast all really good quality enjoyable. Evening meal good choice 4 courses not massive portions but really nice quality tried the trout one night the salmon another night, the only poor meal we had was our first night just frozen deepfried fish, but each night the food got better and better so we decided it was the chef's night off the first night we were there.Desserts lovely. The actual dining area is very dated and so is the bar area its not somewhere we wanted to sit as its dark green and gold very 1980's but there was a good large flat screen telly in there. The conservatory area is where most quests choose to sit after dinner very pleasant, this looks out towards the pool and gardens, and sea view. The pool area and gardens are again well maintained and very clean, the water is cold but enjoyable. It takes about 8mins to walk downwards to the beach and the swanky hotels of brelards bay, its really beautiful the gardens the beach area wine bars it has it all but very steep going back up you can catch a bus for about a £1 depending on your mobility. The staff are all really friendly and chatted quite alot to anna receptionist and also met chef who was making steak and ale pie, he was again very pleasant, i must say all round we had a fabulus break and will deinately stay again, its a good price for a fab location.

We have been visiting this Hotel for many years seeing and enjoying the improvements the owners have made. Jersey is an expensive place in many ways, but after staying at other Hotels on the Island (Some of which have been knocked down and high value appartments built in their place), it is refreshing to have this famly run Hotel at what we consider good value for Jersey. It has sea views, short walk to bus stops and good double rooms with ensuite facilities kept in a good clean condition. Now smokers have to go outside, the conservatory is a great area to sit after breakfast or dinner. Food wise the Miramar offers an excellent breakfast choice and dinners whilst not cordon bleu are of good quality and filling.
We have always found the staff pleasant and the owners very helpful and approachable. We always contact the Hotel to arrange the holiday as have found it better value and easy to arrange including any car hire, boat trips etc.
We twice visited with my elderly parants (mother is disabled) and found the owners so helpful in organising suitable rooms and parking.
This is a quiet Hotel, with good views, clean facilites in an accessable location a short distance from the bay and local shops (including a M & S and Lloyds chemist). It appears popular with the more older clientele, but this for us makes it quieter, but has facilities for younger families. We will continue to return.
