The Channel Islands Occupation Society should be congratulated for the efforts they do to preserve this historically important archaeology. Lothringen is one of the jewels on Jersey and should be seen if you have an interest, but check openings carefully.

Ok, so it was February when i visited Jersey and quite a bit was closed as its off season so I was really lucky when i got in touch with Ian (CIOS) and arranged to go out to the battery from St Hellier with some of Ian's friends. It's amazingly well preserved with one of the guns sited where it was years ago. You can go around the ammunition bunkers and get a feel for the layout of the site. Located here is the one of its type command bunker to its special cliff face design. The command bunker itself is brought to life by the displays and its easy to get an impression how it all worked. Views are brilliant as you'd guess from a range finding station. Well worth a visit. I'll be back...The pub on the top of the hill close by is well worth looking into too if its a bit chilly.

It gave me a great sense of perspective of the defences during the occupation. It would have been quite formidable

We decided to have a look at the Battery Lothringen near St Brelade on Jersey. It is a must view place. If you are an enthusiast who loves lokking around second world war sites then you will go along way to find better than this. There is a complete underground placement which has everything set up as it would have been in 1941-1945. There are sleeping quarters, kitchen, toilets, wireless room gun positions etc etc. The work and effort that has gone on with this site is remarkable and really is worth the visit. The car park is enormous and the free. There is a small charge of approx £2.50 per person to view the bunker area. It is worth every penny so please go and have a look for yourselves. There are other areas around the main site which have also been excavated which show where all the cartridges etc had been stored and these are also free to view and worth a visit.
