Whilst on a short break to Jersey, we discovered Midbay Café. A really nice place to be with good food and drink and a nice busy and casual atmosphere.

I thought it would only be fair to add a review to this scarcely reviewed mecca of food in Jersey.

We have been coming here for years, within which time we continue to eat amazing food in an amazing location, run by the amazing hosts, Gary and Michelle. Gary may come across as a bit grumpy when you first meet him, but he's just keeping his enthusiasm for life internalised rather than smiling unnecessarily all the time.

The highlights :

Cod and chips, which comes with bread and butter and tea or coffee - it's the best fish and chips I've ever had anywhere.

Gammon, which comes with pineapple, fried eggs, a big salad and chips.

Their flexibility - even if it's not on the menu, if they can make it, they will, especially when it comes to customising breakfasts (which other places refuse to do - Big Vern's).

The friendliness - all the staff can't do enough for you - it really is a pleasure to go there.

The only downside I can think of, and this isn't a fault of Midbay, is that if you eat outside (and this has already been referred to by another reviewer), you can often get smoked at from multiple angles. Luckily there is seating around the back of the shop as well, so this is normally where we sit.

Oh, I've just rememberred, they don't do fancy coffees, which my girlfriend isn't very impressed by, but which doesn't bother me.

We have often passed by the Midbay when out for a stroll on a sunny day in St Brelade, but have never stopped as it is always busy. However, on a dull day, and looking for lunch we popped inside not knowing what to expect. It is larger inside than it looks, and the very friendly staff had a ready smile for all comers. Our sandwiches were freshly prepared, and delicious. We noticed that they have a good selection of delicious cakes-very tempting! This is definately a place to visit again.

A couple run this cafe- a happy atmosphere good traditional food at affordable prices.
Welcomes customers young and old,. family freindly. Very helpful with disabled customers & parking oppoite is helpful for them. The cakes, apple pie and cream teas are excellent. the 12A & 14 bus stop right outside in the summer. Eat in or out and there is a lovely gift shop which sells daily papers and the local rag we call the J E P . Yes Locals love this place also and there is plenty of parking nearby, lovely walks, the Beach with water sports lifeguards, For quiet time Churchills Garden Make your Day with a visit to Midbay from one who can't resist the apple pie and they do take away

We were wandering along the promenade deciding where to stop for a snack. The sun was shining and we were attracted by the clean tables with little vases of flowers outside the cafe. We chose crab baguettes which were beautifully presented and then shared a scone with jam and cream. Very friendly staff (gave me a sample of Jersey black butter to try).
Just one downfall - if sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine, you may be subjected to a face full of cigarette smoke depending on which way the wind is blowing. It's a shame that people who choose not to smoke can't sit outside in the fresh air without having to breathe in other peoples' smoke. We would still recommend this lovely little cafe as the seating inside did look very comfortable and clean.
