L'Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa

Reviewed April 12, 2009

We have just arrived through the door from a 5 day break in Jersey, and I have told my partner that I would write our first ever review of a hotel/trip away.

Myself, my partner and our 10 month old boy went to Jersey purely for the fact that we wanted to see how our baby boy would cope on a plane if we ever decided to go on a long haul flight...but we didn't expect to have such a great trip away. We stayed at the L'Horizon and this was first class, from staff to the hotel facilities.

The hotel is situated in St. Brelades Bay, which is a 5 min taxi journey from the airport (You can hire a car from the airport or the hotel...we caught a taxi from the airport but hired a car from the hotel (Europcar) for the last 2 days...cost £71 inc of all insurance and half a tank of petrol which we didn't have to fill up on return etc, and droppped it off at the airport). It is on one of the nicest beaches in Jersey (we thought), sandy and clean. What really made it for us was the very attentive staff and also the hotel being extremely child friendly. The room we had which was a sea view with balcony, was excellent, I cannot fault it on any count. The breakfast which was included in our package was great. Baby high chairs were available for littlun, and a vast range of choice from made-to-order waffles to smoked haddock & poached eggs. The Spa facilites were great too, we both had an Indian Head Massage by Becky (we think that was her name) and that was fantastic (Highly recommend it), the pool and jaccuzzi was great, and again extremely child friendly. The evening bar area, we thought, was fantastic. A great place to meet other guests and their kids. Also the pianist was especially brilliant, a dear lady who allowed our little boy to have a go on the piano, was fantastic evening entertainment.

We honestly did not think we would enjoy Jersey as much as we did, but due to the staff and friends we made at the hotel and around Jersey (people their are very welcoming) it made it an extra special break for. We will definately be returning at some point.

Oh other things that we forgot to mention:
- The hotel has babysitting facilities but we did not use this
- Free Internet Access in the room if you bring your laptop
- You have a DVD player in the room and can choose from 100 DVDs to watch from reception
- Some really nice restaurants in St Brelades but one of our great finds was the Navigator Restaurant in Rozel Harbour which was amazing, especially if you like seafood.

Have stayed here several times previously and on this occasion was able to take my wife with me so were given a double room with a balcony overlooking the magnificent beach below. The room was pleasant but the beds a little soft for our taste. Bathroom was large and overall we were quite satisfied. Breakfast was a very good buffet. Overall a good hotel in a wonderful location.

Stayed for 2 night break in March to blow away the cobwebs. Booked a seaview b&b and had dinner thrown in as a winter special. The hotel is a large newly modernised building directly on the seafront on the beautiful St Brelades bay. Chose this hotel as is directly on sands, no road in between like some others, therefore no traffic noise only crashing waves, heaven. Check in was fast and efficient with very pleasant staff. Was told that there would be two functions on whilst I was staying but as I was on 2nd floor I shouldn't hear any noise. Was a little concerned about that but was no need as even though there were hundreds of people milling about downstairs we didn't hear a peep! The room was a fair size, large flat screen tv, dvd player, internet access, great bed and large bathroom. A small terrace overlooked the bay with a fabulous view. My only tiny complaint was that the terrace was too small for any chairs which would have been a problem had it have been the summer, there are other rooms with larger balconies so if this is an issue make sure you ask for one. Good heating/aircon system.
The breakfast was great, buffet style but with just about everything you could want. Dinner in the Grill Restaurant was really lovely, couldn't fault the food or service, Pedro the manager was professional and efficient. I will say that had the dinner not been included in the room rate, meals were very expensive, there are a couple of other alternatives just outside the hotel. The public areas in the hotel were very comfortable and nicely furnished, all with that great sea view. Didn't use the pool but looked nice from the outside. Plenty of free parking for guests.

We booked a romantic Valentines getaway at L'Horizon after seeing a fantastic deal on Expedia.co.uk and having been recommended by family living on the island. After checking in we were slightly concerned by the smell of cigarette smoke in our room, and then when the couple next door checked in we could hear every word they were saying through the interconnecting door. The receptionist was very accomodating and quickly sent the porter to move us into another (lovely) room in a newer wing of the hotel.

The room was clean, comfortable and had a massive plasma TV (which impressed the other half) and they included nice little touches like a list of DVD's to borrow and a turn down service with chocolates and water left on the bedside tables, as well as a little weather forecast card which was very useful!

The hotel is located right on St Brelades beach, which is beautiful (my 6 year old nephew even calls it 'Jersey beach' as it's the best one!) and within a short walk there are a few beach cafes and restaurants meaning you don't have to venture far from the hotel for a bite to eat should you not wish to eat in the hotel's (rather expensive) restaurants or brasserie.

We would definately recommend hiring a car to explore the island (especially off season), we booked a taxi to go out one night and were shocked at the cost to go across to the next bay at St Aubin!

We also booked a couples spa treatment which was very relaxing and our two therapists looked after us very well. The pool and jacuzzi were a great place to watch the world go by with views over the beach!

My husband and I booked 4 nights in Jersey for a romantic getaway and a bit of pampering, we have been to Jersey once before and stayed at the excellent De France Hotel in St Helier.
The position of L'Horizon is superb, right on the beach with fantastic views from some rooms, the pool area and the terrace area used in the summer. The room we had unfortunately had a view of some air conditioning but the room itself was nice, large with a sofa and table and seperate part for the spacious wardrobes with pleasant modern decor. It also had a 42" plasma TV and free film loan from reception (this came to be very useful as I had food poisoning from the 3rd day onwards and was confined to my bed).
The staff are very pleasant and helpful in every area and the breakfast is very good with a cold buffet and a various hot choices from the menu. We didn't eat at the hotel for dinner but chose to eat at The Ocean restaurant at The Atlantic Hotel a couple of miles away.
We booked the hotel on the strength of its position and the spa as we wanted to book some treatments. I found the spa to be quite dissappointing. The pool area with jacuzzi and sauna and steam rooms was very average and the pool smelt a bit 'old' it is a salt water pool - maybe this is why. The view however from this area was spectacular, you can sit in the jacuzzi and look out to sea. The treatments we booked were a back massage each and a facial for myself. Having been to the De France's spa where we were cocooned in luxury, with relaxation rooms and robes and a fantastic separate area we were quite dissappointed at the treatment rooms here, there are 2 and they look like they were an afterthought being off the walkway from the brasserie area to the chaging rooms. The treatments were well done but there was no luxury about it. No robes, just strip while the lady waits in the room with you. My advice if you are looking for a pampering holiday is to book here for your accomodation but have any treatments at the De France hotel. The 2 spas are not even comparable.

We stayed for our Anniversary treat in Oct. We booked a seaview room with balcony only to find a wedding party right outside our patio, when asked to be moved we were put in a dingy room at the front of the hotel. I e mailed on my return and was told the manager would be looking into things. After 2 weeks I had heard nothing so e mailed again I was told I should have recieved a letter (which was attached in the email) I opened it only to find that a feeble apology had been written and sent to an address that bore no resemblence to mine. This really sums up L'Horizon

Just returned from L`Horizon. Thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of Jersey. Excellent Concierge staff who were really helpful. We booked a deluxe double sea view room, whilst the room was beautifully furnished, the bedroom was really small and felt almost claustrophobic. We were paying £230 per night, dinner bed and breakfast, so not cheap. The toiletries in the bathroom were really poor for the standard of the Hotel. The food in all restaurants was really good, drinks in the bar really expensive £10.50 for 2 vodka tonics.
The spa itself was really dated but the therapists were good.
We hired a car which was a must if you wanted to get around Jersey and see the whole Island. Lots of lovely pubs around for lunch and everyone was really friendly wherever we went.
Would I go back again, yes, definitely.
