Most of the negative reviews for La Place were written several years ago and are now totally out of date. On our visit we were amazed at the standard of accommodation in our room, the restaurant, the bar and the lounge. We stayed in room 207 and were so impressed with the space, cleanliness and decor. All members of staff were polite and helpful and would always go the extra mile to ensure all our needs were met; from driving us to local restaurants or into St.Helier to providing us with a light breakfast at our early morning departure. The hotel has a mini bus which collects and returns guests to the nearby airport at no extra charge. Within the hotel grounds there are some really pretty, beautifully appointed cottages which we would certainly consider on a return visit with other members of the family. Admittedly, some areas of this hotel do exude an air of 'work in progress' but once complete it will merit a 5 star rating.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet but some overlook the pool at the back if you prefer that type of view. The newl...

We stayed in one of the new (2012) self-catering cottages in the grounds of the hotel for Christmas where we were entertaining family from the Island.

We thought Yew Cottage (2-bed) was lovely - it was beautifully presented and accessorised and was very cosy throughout. The hotel heritage was evident, by which I mean that bedrooms and bathrooms were very well fitted out and provided for, but the kitchen needs a bit more thought when people are staying for Christmas in particular.

In terms of detail, other positives were that the shower and huge bath were both excellent. The living room had a high quality iPod docking station and good entertainment provision. There was a proper, good quality hairdryer. The location is great, 5 minutes from the airport, and they have plenty of car parking.

The kitchen lacked some basics (which we fed back to the hotel) and maybe this is just because it is quite new and it wasn't fully equipped.

Overall though, the cottage was lovely and pretty much met requirements.

Disappointingly, the service wasn't very good (and I'm absolutely staggered to see from reviews that other cottage visitors at the same time had such good service - where did we go wrong?). There was one major issue which they handled badly.

During the afternoon on Christmas Eve we found we had no hot water. We left it for a couple of hours in case it was heating up, but we still had no hot water by about 8pm. We tried to reach the hotel, three or four times by phone. Although it was closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, it had been open when we arrived on the Sunday and we were told that there was a duty manager. Nobody answered the phone on any of the times we called and we even went to the front door of the hotel, in a howling gale, to find that it was in complete darkness.

Thankfully we had booked the cottage through an agent in Jersey, who did answer the phone and was incredibly helpful. Whilst she tried to reach the hotel management (she also got no reply from the duty manager), we discovered that there was a 2-hour boost button for the hot water.

The agent was told by one of the owners that a plumber would come the next morning, ie Christmas Day, and bearing in mind we had managed to get some hot water for immediate use we were quite happy with that. The duty manager called us the next morning at which point he had the cheek to tell me that we really shouldn’t have changed the hot water settings as they were set to come on at specific times. Obviously if someone had answered the phone on any one of the occasions that I called then maybe they could have sorted it out without us tinkering with the settings, but as they didn’t and we had no hot water then we had to do what we could.

I was told he would send a plumber during the morning. It is possible that one came in during the hour or so we were out on Christmas morning, but I am sceptical, given that everything was exactly as we had left it when we got back. We carried on using the 2-hour boost button for the remainder of our stay as we weren't going to risk having no hot water again.

I don't know where he was when he called us on Christmas Day but, if he was in the hotel, he made no effort to see us personally, to check we were OK or apologise.

At the time I would have said that the issues arose largely because it was Christmas when there was just one person “on duty”. However, our agent has raised this with the hotel now several times since it happened, including earlier this week, and there has been no satisfactory response. They were still looking into it 2 1/2 weeks after we left. Extraordinary.

We did have a lovely stay in spite of this, and with a little attention the kitchen will match the standard of the other rooms, at which time I think it could legitimately be described as a 5* self-catering property. They just need to get the service to that standard aswell.

We recently stayed at the beautiful Cottages at La Place Hotel St Brelade Jersey C.I.
The cottages are second to none for the price and we would all stay there next time we visit Jersey. The hotel was closed from Xmas day onwards for further refurbishment to the hotel. However this did not stop the staff from accommodating our specific requests which required them to go out of their way to make things happen. This meant we could have our traditional family meal for 11 of us together as we always did when we lived in Jersey. The cottages are extremely well furnished to a high standard, and are peaceful and relaxing too. The whole family when visiting us remarked on how lovely they were. The proximity to the airport and St Aubins with many great restaurants was a bonus. The General Manager collected us up from the airport and took us back for our return flight 8 days later. The bookings Manager Christine has been a great help in sorting things out for us. All in all a great time was had by the 4 of us thanks to La Place Hotel and Cottages.

Room Tip: The Cottages are all the same ground floor plan with 2 3 or 4 bedrooms and all similarly decorated t...

We stayed in one of the 4 cottages with family and it was perfect, the interior was beautifully furnished and the layout worked well. Although the hotel was closed the staff were extremely accommodating and attended to all our needs. The location of the property made it easy to travel to the airport and for getting around the island.

Just spent a great rugby w/end at La Place. This hotel really is worth a visit be it for a weekend or longer. The management and staff couldn't have been more helpful in ensuring my wife and I had a lovely time and handled all are wishes in a most relaxed and friendly manner. Of particular note were all the courtesy shuttle rides they gave us to/from the airport, rugby ground and down to St Aubins harbour. The hotel is well on the way through a major refurbishment and the new décor is quite superb, with extremely well-appointed bedrooms which create a lovely relaxing ambience throughout the hotel. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff more than willing to allow you to create your own individual plate from a mix of all the fresh produce on offer, and for those wishing a night out in St Helier the local bus stops right outside the front door - perfect! This hotel is simply a great place to stay and thoroughly deserves its 4-star rating.
