“Lived up to its rating!”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

We've just returned from a 6 day stay at the Cristina and must say that we endorse the positive comments made about it.
We had an excellent room (308) with wonderful views of St Aubin and St Helier. Clean and comfortable - everything worked. We were impressed with the staff we came into contact with. Every one of them from the managers, through waiters to room staff was friendly and very helpful. At the end of a long season when most of them were looking forward to getting back home this was no mean feat.
We had breakfast every day and there was a good selection of hot and cold food from the buffet, frequently replenished. Watching the Las Vegas style greediness from some of the guests was a bit stomach-turning though! We ate in the restaurant and in the bar area on a couple of occasions and enjoyed our meals which were well presented and with good portion sizes.
The only negative about the hotel is one which a large number of hotels suffer from, namely the super strong room door closing catches making it just about impossible to shut the door quietly. In a peaceful hotel like this, the noise of doors banging late at night and early in the morning was often the only sound. Surely, it can't be that difficult for hotels to sort this out?

The bottom line? We'd stay there again without any hesitation.

Room Tip: Ask for a third floor room with balcony between 301 and 318 (I think). Terrific views.

Dear Faircot,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review, I greatly value all feedback. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and wish to return. I will look into what we can do about the automatic door closers. They were brand new this year along with the very heavy oak doors. There may be a way of making close softer.

For future guests: our top floor rooms are numbered 301 - 315. We cannot guarantee which floor your room will be on. We will only guarantee your room type.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the Cristina in the near future.

Kind regards

Stayed for 7 nights bed and breakfast, on arrival they did try to tempt us to go half board with an offer but we like to try different places to eat.
We had a sea view room which was excellent even if a little small but very tastefully decorated and very clean. The view from the balcony was outstanding, it was south facing to the sea so very sunny in the afternoon even in September we caught a few rays. If you want to go to the pool there are towels and beds provided and the pool was very nice. Somebody in an earlier review complained the pool was cold but I think some people think the temperature should be like their bath water, it was fine.
The wardrobe in the room could have been bigger, OK for a weekend or one person but for a week, too small. This was not helped by half the wardrobe being taken up with a shoe storage rack with a safe on top, next to the wardrobe was a unit with a drawer and the tea maikng on top, this could go and extend the wardrobe. This is a result of the compactness of the room. The bathroom was small but OK. Older or less able guests should note it was a bath shower and not a walk in shower.
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble and the service in the bar and restaurant was excellent.
The beakfast was good even though one earlier review said it was cold and tasteless I made a point every day of checking as I read this review before I left home and I could not fault it. As for paying for your eggs, a comment by another reviewer, I had fried or scrambled eggs every day at no extra charge. He or she did not explain very well in their review.
The evening meal in the restaurant was very good, the quality of the food was excellent, the view from the dinning room is stunning and a perfect backdrop. However, the bare wooden tables and the stark spotlight lighting did not help at all, what a difference a table cloth, candle and a flower on the table would have made finished with gentle tasteful lighting and it would have been perfect.
We ate in the bar as well and the food was excellent.
We took my 80 year old Mother with us and noticed from another Trip Advisor this hotel had no lift even though we were told by the Hotel Group all their hotels have a lift, so this is another point for elderly or impared guests to take note of. We did contact the contact the hotel group before we arrived and they made sure my Mother had a room on the ground floor.
In summary we had a wonderful week in Jersey and the hotel certainly helped with the experience.

Room Tip: Book a seaview.

Stayed one night for our 52nd anniversary, and was overwhelmed by the view of St Aubin's Bay from our room and the dining room. The staff were very polite and efficient without being too obtrusive, the hotel was spotlessly clean, and the food was excellent. Intend to go again.

Stayed here for 4 days and had a lovely stay. We got an upgrade and had a lovely balcony with a sea view. The rooms were a little small but had everything one would need. Plenty of car parking and a great swimming pool with towels provided.

The only complaint I had was at breakfast. They charge extra to order eggs benedict which I feel should be included. One the morning I did order this it wasn't very good and I had to send it back. They didn't charge us for it.

I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Cristina over the August bank holiday weekend. The hotel is situated just up a hill overlooking the sea, which makes for a nice view when you step out of the car (and from your room if you're lucky).

Our check-in was friendly and quick and I liked the daily newsletter that we were given informing us of events on the island. We had our luggage kindly taken for us and were introduced to our room which was large and spacious with a big comfy bed. The bathroom was nice too, with big soft bath towels.

The hotel itself is pleasant enough, and it's got you covered whatever the weather. We arrived hoping to laze by the swimming pool drinking cocktails, but heavy rain meant we had to settle for the hotel bar and its assorted indoor games (you can't beat Scrabble on a rainy afternoon). There's also free wi-fi throughout the hotel which I appreciated very much.

Breakfast in the morning is typical buffet stuff with a selection of meat, cheese, breads, fruit, eggs and so on. The only downside was we found that the hot chocolate (which you order from the staff) was weak and watery.

All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Cristina and were happy with our room and the service!

Received a very warm welcome on our arrival from the reception staff. Staff overall are very friendly and efficient. Only minor issue is a training one: There appears to be inconsistencies in how guests are treated within the bar and restaurant.
Bedrooms are modern with new flat screen TVs.
We had a balcony sea facing room - excellent views and decent external furniture.
Only grumbles - wooden handrails were a bit rough and the shower had poor pressure.
Breakfast was good - nice to see Black Pudding on offer. Excellent croissants and selection of juices.
Only ate an evening meal in the restaurant once - good service and had a fantastic seafood special.
Had a bar meal one night - menu is unspectacular, but the food is tasty and it comes in large portions.
Drinks prices are reasonable with good table service.
Outside terrace is very well laid out.
Pool terrace is an excellent sun trap with good furniture and a good supply of towels. There is a phone to contact the bar for drinks etc. The pool itself is large, but we found it very cold.
The external entrance to the hotel's driveway is very tight for both getting in and out. The hotel's main car park is also challenging with angled parking bays and tight turning areas. If you have a room on the 2nd or 3rd floors, you would be advised to use the overflow car park and the entrance door on that level.
Overall a very good experience.

Room Tip: Get a balcony room with a sea view. Third floor is the best.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, your feedback really is appreciated.

I'm sorry that you found inconsistencies in how guests are treated in the bar and restaurant. I would appreciate a little more detail on this point if you have time so that I can address the issues steven.hayesatdolanhotels.com.

Some of the wooden handrails on the balconies are rough to touch and have been affected by the sun this year. They will be sanded down and re varnished this winter. I am also looking into the low shower pressure in the room that you stayed in.

I'm pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay, the service and the food. I really hope to welcome you back in the near future.

For any future guests coming to stay with us, the map and directions on our website will direct you to the hotel via a longer (but safer) route. Please have a look at this if you are at all nervous about the sharp turn into the hotel. On a separate note, our swimming pool temperature is maintained at a constant 25-26 degrees celcius between May and September.

Thank you once again for posting your review

Kind regards
