Writing this on behalf of my parents, who stayed here and enjoyed their stay so much, they wanted me to add a review to Trip Advisor. Rooms were comfortable, location was great and my dad raved about the breakfast. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating.

For the reduced price we paid on Groupon, this was fine, but I would be pretty fed up if we had paid the going rate for this two-night stay. Achill itself was lovely, the room was warm, even on a cold windy day, the kettle worked and the breakfasts were good. The staff were nice, if a bit overstretched-looking. The hotel was called 'the new hotel' by a local man we met, but it certainly does not look new. It looks worn and needs money spent on some improvements and a good tidy-up. In a recession this may not be possible. Perhaps island life is so relaxed that making the dustbin yard (with its display of empty crates and its rusting container) a feature of the view from some hotel rooms does not seem a problem, but if you are on holiday it is not what you came for. There were oddities, like a single reading light on one side of a bed for two. A nice, smiling woman brought us another light instantly when we asked - but then we found that the socket would not fit UK/Ireland square pin plugs so the light could not be used. We had already had to ask for a room change, so gave up bothering them and just improvised. And the new room had the curse of the pretendy king size bed which is actually two singles pushed together, with a dip and ridge in the middle where they hardly really meet. God only knows why hotels do this; why not just put a single and a double bed in the room if they want to be adaptable?

Room Tip: Ask for one with a good view. The hotel is surrounded by beauty but some rooms weirdly miss out.

Stayed 2 nights as part of a Group-on deal, excellent value for money. Room (118) was very large with great views of the bay. Staff were friendly and food was very good. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone and hope to return again in the future.

Popped in here for tea from the Greenway, and we certainly won't be back- 4 euro for a pot of tea for two???!!! Wasn't even easy to get anyone's attention to either order or pay. Crazy- I'll be taking my business elsewhere next time.

Just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable stay in this hotel. The location is excellent for exploring all the facilities the Island has to offer, the scenery is amazing! The room was clean, cosy and tastefully decorated with a wide screen TV and tea coffee making facilities. The manager Edward John and all the staff were extremely welcoming and pleasant especially Lorraine her cheerful friendly disposition enhanced the ambience of the hotel. The food was delicious and the portions very generous. The menu was varied and served all day. The staff were happy to continue to serve food beyond the 8pm deadline. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly a perfect breakaway we would certainly return in the future.

Room Tip: If you want a sea view you should request it in advance

We stayed here for 2 nights B&B with a Groupon deal in April 2013. I was initially a bit disappointed as the hotel is called the Achill Island Hotel but it' not actually on Achill Island! However, it is only a short walk over the bridge to the island and most places to visit on the island require a car or bike so it doesn't really matter.

When we checked in, we were told that this time of year everything is quite 'relaxed' so we accepted that and did not expect too much. However, the staff were all very nice and helpful. Even the maid told us not to hurry when she was cleaning the rooms on our floor. We were also told that if we didn't make the 10.30am deadline for breakfast, they would 'sort us out'! We did make it to breakfast both mornings and had a lovely cooked breakfast, complete with black and white pudding. One morning hubby had fish and was served a nice filet of hake. Other breakfast ingredients were cereals, fruit salad, juices, brown bread and toast.

Our room was plenty big enough for the two of us and had tea making facilities (although no biscuits so you might want to bring your own :). The large screen tv had all the Irish channels but if you wanted Sky, you would need to go to the bar downstairs. The hotel was quiet at night and our room had a nice view of the Sound.

As it was off season, the restaurant was not open so we ate in the bar one night. The menu was perhaps a bit on the plain side but it's what you would expect from a hotel. We ordered the roast of the day (lamb) and it came with all sorts of freshly steamed veg as well as mash and chips. I had the fudge cake for dessert while hubby had a deep dish apple pie. His only complaint was that there was not quite enough ice cream to go with the huge portion of pie!

The hotel is at one end of the newly opened Greenway, a walking and cycling route between Achill and Westport. I would highly recommend exploring this area by bike as the scenery is so beautiful. There is bike parking as well as ample car parking at the hotel.

This was our first trip to Achill as we were attending a wedding here (not at this hotel although we got a special rate due to the wedding but was still quite expensive). The hotel is in a good position for the island with a reasonable supermarket close by. The outside of the hotel is impressive with quite stunning views over the water. The hallways carpeting was worn through in places and needed replacing. The rooms are a good size and a comfortable bed although they are dated and need some modernisation. Our bath panel was cracked as was the sink unit, the water pressure from the shower was poor albeit the water was hot although it stopped working altogether on occasions. The meals were of a good standard and the price (most bet 11and 15 euros)was good especially having a captive audience due to location. Drink was also fairly priced beers bet 3 and 4 euros. The staff were in short supply in the reception area most times you needed to get the bar staff to double up for this area .They were very friendly and most helpful with a sunny disposition. We were B and B the breakfast was varied cereals etc I had the full Irish which was excellent lots of fruit juice and make your own toast.
Overall a fair price for fair a service.

Room Tip: You need to have your own transport as there is only one bus in the morning for this area. There ar...
