O'Driscoll's Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 4 Glin B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 12, 2012

During our recent 2-week stay in Ireland, my daughter (21) and I stayed at seven B&Bs: without a doubt, O'Driscoll's was the best! Estelle, our host, was friendly, gracious, surpassingly competent and informative. She tuned in immediately to what kind of experiences we sought, and made the suggestions and connections necessary for us to gain those; with her help, we were able to investigate, and enjoy, so much that the small town of Glin has to offer. The breakfast menu is full; and the breakfasts themselves were excellently prepared, beautifully presented, always right on time. The room was lovely--clean, pretty, comfortable. A large assortment of "tourist reading" is available. In sum, Estelle O'Driscoll was our "Good Fairy," fulfilling every wish. All the other B&Bs we experienced are very nice--but O'Driscoll's is superior in every way.

Room Tip: Tell Estelle what you want, and she will find what's best.

We spent two nights either side of a Saturday wedding and cannot speak too highly of Estelle's hospitality. In addition to the fantastic breakfasts, she gave us coffeee and apple pie on our arrival and more refreshments next day before we set off for the wedding as she said it would be a long time before the wedding reception. When we returned on Sunday afternoon we were again welcomed with more refreshments. Her friendly help and advice on local customs was invaluable and we look forward to returning when we next visit our relations.

Room Tip: As we were a family group we took up three rooms and all were excellent.

NOT TO BE MISSED! We arrived at Glin after a 1-day trip to Galway on our way back home to Cork. It was 5 pm and Estelle welcomed us with a delicious coffee/tea and homemade apple tart with views to her lovely garden. After an evening walk to the River Shannon and around the town of Glin, we returned to a cozy, warm & lovely decorated room. After a good night sleep, we were lucky to taste a delicious breakfast (Estelle has choices to meet any person's preference) with free range eggs, bacon, tomatoes and toast. We then made our way home with a big smile in our faces...

We stumbled upon this as we were looking to get away from the "touristy" area of Bunratty. Estelle met us at the door and was ever so welcoming! We had arrived in Shannon just a few hours earlier and we were quite beat after the overnight flight. She let us check in right away so we could get some rest- but not before offering us a wonderful homemade treat and cup of tea. Our original plan was to stay one night and head on to Dingle. We loved it so much here that we booked a second night. Estelle provided wonderful conversation, sightseeing tips (the hidden gems) and fabulous food. She keeps an organic garden out back and is very eco-conscious. I would definitely make this our first stop again if we go by way of Shannon! In any event, I have fond memories and highly recommend O'Driscoll's. Ironically, 2 years later I became friends with a woman who grew up in Glin and really got a kick out of hearing my story and seeing my photos! Full disclosure:Please note that we traveled in 2009 but May 2011 was the earliest option to choose on this site.
