Reviewed March 3, 2009

We - Dutch family, two kids of 5 and 8 - stayed for three days in the Riverside Mews after having stayed in an absolutely terrific cottage in Kenmare, called Ring of Kerry Holiday Homes. Compared to this, the Riverside Mews was a bit of a letdown.

However, in all fairness, the house was decent enough. It smelled a bit funny though, but this was quickly rectified by unplugging the airfreshener. Overhead lighting was harsh fluorescent, the carpets were spotty and threadbare in a couple of places, one blanket had " funny" stains and the furniture was, well.... just furniture. Not really "gezellig", if that means anything to you.

But on the upside, the view of the river Shannon was pretty cool, there was a lot of space for the kids to play in front of the house (incl playground), we had our own parking space and use of the hotel's (Castle Oaks) 17 metre pool and assorted facilities, the rooms were large enough, it had sattelite tv, the bathrooms and kitchen were clean and in good working order (no rain-shower though !!) and the beds were excellent. As far as location goes, it was decent enough too. Galway was a ninety minute drive (if you manage to avoid rush hour traffic!!) and Bunratty Castle only 30 minutes away (a must-see). The Burren, Ailwee Cave (!), the cliffs of Moher and Connemara are easily reached from here, although I would suggest staying in or near Galway if your main objectives are these (we picked Castleconnell because we wanted a shorter drive to Dublin airport our last day).

All in all, the house was decent enough, but nothing special.
