“Fantastic room”
Reviewed January 16, 2013 via mobile

Booked a nights stay with their seven course meal as a birthday treat. Firstly i do think got an excellent deal with a voucher not cheap but good value. Girl on reception was very helpful and friendly so great first impression. Room was a junior suite, fantastic space with a lovely view. The meal itself got off to a really bad start , first course came and then nothing for 45 minutes. The waitress came out with an excuse that was embarrassing however after a bit of a moan service improved a lot and food was delicious. They have wine matching with this meal which involves 4 different named wines. When they didnt have 2 of these wines in stock it started to get irritating again but in fairness they deducted it from the bill so you cant say fairer than that. Ordered an irish coffee in the lovely bar, have to say it was really really bad, an irish country house hotel should be able to serve one of these properly.Barman said someone else made it and he would make sure he made a proper one and true to his word he did. Breakfast was superb. Would i return? Absolutely.

If you are looking for an exciting time in plush modern hotel then this is not the place for you. If on the other hand you want a taste of the old world and small things like a cracked tile or creaky floorboard don't bother you then you will have a fine relaxing stay. Definitely not a place to bring the kids as it is very quiet.
Staff here are some of the friendliest you will ever find.
Food in main restaurant is average but the bar menu is very good and excellent value.

I brought my 74 year old mother here for a treat on New Years day 1st Jan. 2013.
We were booked in for the 7 course dinner Menu Prestige, Overnight Stay in Junior Suite & breakfast, but we both left during the Dreadful Dinner without bothering to wait for coffee, both of us still hungry, having to go home & cook dinner. Naturally we did not stay.
I asked to see the chef during the terrible meal, only to be told he had gone home, who cooks here. I asked for the hotel manager, to be told that he is on leave. Asked for assistant manager, reply was again, "not here". Fawlty Towers was never this bad.
Go elsewhere

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. It was fantastic. The first night we were a group of about 12 people. The staff were ever so helpful. They gave us a seperate room to enjoy our dinner. We had Sophia babysit our children and she was also fantastic. It meant we could actually enjoy the evening. We attended a wedding on the second night and the food was outstanding. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in 69 and that end of the house was really quiet.

I stayed at this hotel in November. It was a nightmare!! The food was a rip off & horrible. We didn't get a wink of sleep between the cheap pillows & some loud constant noise which eventually stopped at 7.30am and we managed to get just over 1 hour sleep. We went here for a nice break but ended up exhausted!

The breakfast was in one word 'mean' - 1 shrivelled up sausage, 1 measly rasher, 1 piece of dry pudding & scrambled egg even though I ordered fried. This was a common mistake that morning as the waiters ran around swapping plates from table to table as people got the wrong type of egg!! Tea & toast was served first and then the breakfast didn't arrive for nearly 30mins!!

A couple of days later I called and complained and was advised the manager would call me back but of course he didn't. I emailed them and they ignored me so the follow up messages to any of the complaints on this board advising customers to contact them with complaints is rubbish.

Irish hospitality at it's best!! What a joke!!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

Having stayed in Tinakilly last year i decided to return with my Fiance for a pre christmas break. The old world charm and character of this Hotel are very rare in Ireland these days, with the celtic tiger sprouting spa hotels up all over. We had a lovely room with sea views. We relaxed both nights by the fire and totally unwound. One thing that delighted us both was the fact that we did not have to leave the hotel to eat. Last year the restaurant had a very pretentious menu, this year we ate from the early bird menu on our first night. The second evening we were tired having visited Glendalough and we ate Tapas by the fire, we were in heaven... The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We will definitely be back in the new year...

The dining room had huge dirty bluebottles flying around it. Particularly bad since the breakfast food was laid out, uncovered. The place is desperately grotty & in need of a good clean. My bathroom had dirty grout, a stained & dirty shower curtain & black mould around the edge of the tub. The soft furnishings in the bedroom were stained & didn't make it conducive to a relaxing stay. An overwhelming stench of horrible air freshener in the bedroom made me wonder what they were covering up.
The dinner was fine but nothing to write home about. Desert was brought out on a scalding hot plate (which I wasn't warned about & burnt my hand on) & the desert itself was something that had just been defrosted. So it was icy in the middle & warm on the outside. That aside, I couldn't get my fork through it without using a lot of force. The teaspoons left with the tea service in the bedroom were dirty. The mattress was really thin and lent itself to a poor nights sleep.
I wouldn't darken their door again. Unfortunately a waste of my night away & more importantly of my money. I don't know how they can call themselves a four star hotel and get away with it.
