We stayed with Michael and Mary at the end of April. Their B&B is very comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. It is in an excellent position for walking in the Wicklow Mountains - only a few metres from the Wicklow Way. Even though we had a car it was no problem for Michael to bring us to the restaurant in the evening - my husband enjoyed a large Guinness after his long walk!! We also liked that the B&B is close to everything but is not on the main road - very peaceful!

What a nice place to find so close to a tourist hot spot. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. For breakfast we really enjoyed the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and the local brown bread. Mary Cullen looked after us very well.

Room Tip: If you prefer blankets to quilts, these are available.

This was the first Irish B&B that we stayed in during our three week trip in Ireland. It is a purpose built B&B in a very quiet location. The room was very well appointed and the Irish breakfast excellent. It remained one of our favourites at the end of our trip. While the hosts are not as extroverted as some, this was perfectly fine with us.

We loved our time at the Pinewood Lodge! We spent three lovely nights here in January, near the beginning of a three week holiday in Ireland (visiting from New York). The Pinewood Lodge remained the standard by which we judged our subsequent experiences. Michael and Mary Cullen are impeccable hosts: attentive, professional, not imposing. The Pinewood Lodge is new, solid construction. It is spotless, spacious, airy, welcoming, and best of all, it is warm and perfectly dry. How the Cullens managed to keep the January damp and cold so completely out of the Lodge was magical. There is a hot fireplace in the front guest room; and there were fresh biscuits and supplies for tea in our room each day. We had a spacious room that included a comfortable bed, crisp linens, an area for sitting at a round table with our tea and guidebooks, a shining bathroom with endless hot water, and soundproof walls and fire doors. In three nights we never heard a peep from the other guests once we had retreated to our room. Everything appears fresh and new. Mary offers a full Irish breakfast made to order, served in the decorous breakfast room. We would linger each day over another pot of tea while enjoying the peaceful lodge and planning our walk for the day. The location proved to be ideal. We hadn't thoroughly researched our trip before leaving the states, but we couldn't have chosen a better base for enjoying the Wicklow Mountains and the Glendalough Monastic site. It turns out that this area is one of the few segments of the Wicklow Way where there is no road walking; and it turns out that the Pinewood Lodge is literally situated right off the Wicklow Way hiking trail, so we didn't waste any time. We took the trail to the monastic site and had stunning views of the lakes and mountains en route. Another day we chose to walk the alternative trail. The trail passes by the woolen mill and travels along the scenic river. By either route it is a lovely stroll, and there is endless hiking from there, as well as the monastic site to explore. We finished each day with more tea and Christmas pudding at the Glendalough Inn, before strolling back to the Lodge as our digesitif. This is definitely a destination B and B. We would like to thank Michael and Mary Cullen for their hospitality, and we look forward to returning one day!

We've stayed in Glendalough many, many times over the past 20 years. In future we'll go back to one of the B&Bs in which we've stayed previously.

Although the lodge is in Glendalough it does not seem to have picked up the welcoming approach that is so apparent in most of the village. It was certainly clean and well furnished and the breakfast was adequate. It seemed institutional rather than typically Irish.

The Pinewood Lodge is wonderfully located nestled up a hill and in such a quiet place. We arrived late afternoon and immediately welcomed by Mary who offered us tea and scones as we settled into the main lounge. We knew then that we had picked the perfect spot to experience the lake and mountains of Glendalough. Spacious, clean and comfortable rooms, Pinewood Lodge also had a comfortable lounge where we could meet our family and make new friends from around the world. Breakfasts were exceptional! The full Irish breakfast was hearty...even the special requests of eggs, cereals and more were perfect as we prepared to enjoy the sights of Glendalough. Mary and Michael and their daughter were helpful and caring as they shared advice and insights of how best to enjoy the splendid beauty of Glendalough. We were 3 couples travelling through Ireland...Mary and Michael were accommodating, caring and thoughtful, making our group's stay extra special! Many thanks from your Montreal, Canada guests...jim & Cathy

Room Tip: Enjoy the wonderful beauty...you can take Wicklow Way from Pinewood Lodge right through to the lakes...
