“Overrated and overpriced”
Reviewed September 2, 2005

At best this is an ok B&B. I tour Ireland virtually every year and have stayed at numerous B&Bs, this was one of the worst by Irish standards.

Price 59 euros each plus 15 euros for the breakfast.

Room - average to small - Website photos are the two big front rooms.

Breakfast by Irish standards poor, by anybodys standards average.
Evening dinner was 34 euros and average to poor. For a cooking school I expected so much more.
Further to an earlier comment we had Irelands greatest local music album playing.

Location nice - suited us we were in a car.

Host attentive and friendly, remember this is a family place beside a working farm.

Don't let the website fool you, I would not stay here again

I was very disappointed with this place. I expected a Country House Hotel with excellent food (it has an attached cooking school). It's an ordinary house and the bedrooms are small - with very thin walls. A neighbour's car alarm kept us awake most of the night. The guests' sitting rooms are barely furnished and the whole place screams 'twee'. The food was poor and pretentious - one course consisted only of red cabbage and onions. The waiting staff had obviously never been to a decent restaurant. Along with the annoying greatest hits of classical music CD in the background, the whole meal was simply pretentious. The hosts are welcoming and polite.

I stayed here in November 2004 for a few days. You must have a car if you are going to stay here. It pretty isolated from the nearest town. If Katherine (the owner) decides not to cook because there are not enough guests, it is an hour hike down a very dark (at night) country road to the nearest restaurant. Breakfast is provided each morning and it is quite good but not unfortunately not fillng. The house is quite nice from the outside and there is an nice sitting room downstairs, but the bedrooms are quite small. They claim to have hiking trails directly behind the house but it is really not as simple as that. You can borrow a book from Katherine which has directions for a couple of hikes that start behind the house but the directions are not exactly clear. You are better off going to the Devil's Glen Park which has very nice marked trails and is about four miles away from the house.
