Pier Head Hotel, Spa & Leisure Centre
Ranked #1 of 3 Mullaghmore B&B and Inns
Reviewed February 11, 2013

We have just returned from a weekend break at the Pier Head Hotel. The location of the hotel is amazing right on the sea with beautiful views over the harbour and surrounding area. The restaurant where breakfast is served has lovely views out over the bay but unfortunately was closed on both nights of our stay. As a result we had no choice but to eat in the bar, where the food was excellent bar food, but being away for the weekend, for a special treat, it would have been nice to have dinner in a nicer setting. Be prepared that there is nothing else opened in Mullaghmore during the winter season other than this hotel not even the newsagents. We were especially lucky to have the opportunity to hear Johnny Gallagher play in the bar on the Saturday night who is a very talented musician/singer. The hotel decor itself is a bit tired and in particular the light coloured carpets were dirty looking and could do with an upgrade, however all in all we did have an enjoyable stay in this hotel and found all the staff very pleasant and welcoming.

Room Tip: A room with a seaview would have been nice.

Myself and my husband stayed here last weekend Friday to Sunday. Well worth a visit. The hotel is situated in a beautiful place. The staff were fantastic. Very friendly and welcoming. Food 1st class. Breakfast lovely and hot. No shop opened in the village but hotel provided papers every morning at reception. Room was clean but the window had a draught coming in which made the room and shower room clold but once we put a towel at the window it solved that problem. Swimming pool was lovely. A must visit both for couples and families as the beach is a 2 minute walk away.

Room Tip: As for a room with a bath

Had a lovely relaxing weekend at The Pier Head - although in fairness there isnt a lot to do in Mullaghmore so only go if you want a quiet time.
The staff were wonderful - friendly and welcoming. Sinead in the beauty salon was fantastic - an amazing massage !
Breakfast was fairly good - hot and fresh with a reasonable selection. Having breakfast looking out on that fantastic view was great - I could have sat there all day - the staff didnt rush us out even though it was getting near lunchtime by the time we left.
Our room looked over the sea - what a view to wake up to. The only slight downside was there was a dreadful draught coming in through the windows making the room a bit cold.
On Saturday evening there was live music in the bar - typical Irish bar singer, but it was good fun and quite lively.
The area is simply stunning and worth a visit. Be careful of the drive down the cliff road - not for the nervous - but absolutely amazing views (just a pity I was too scared to stop and take it in).
Would I go back - yes, but I`d get someone else to drive next time so I could see the fantastic scenery !

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the sea are worth having only a shower instead of a bath and the Atlantic gales co...

Had a great break at Pier Head. We needed a chill out after a busy xmas season, and where not disappointed. Rooms where spotless, breakfast and dinners 1st class, and staff very helpful.
Will return later on this year, the only downside was the pool temperature was very cold and my wife was unable to use it. But it won't put us off.

Have been travelling by this place all my life and always wanted to spend a nice quiet weekend in Mullaghmore and got what I thought was a great deal on Pier Head Hotel. Staff so unfriendly and uninterested in their jobs. First room had no bath and a minuscule tv so got moved to a room with a bath and again tiny tv, same in all rooms apparently. The bed was only big enuff for one person and creaked like mad so 2 nights of completely bad rest! And the noise all night from what I presume were the heating boilers was unbearable! No restaurant open only barfood which was overpriced and only average. Again, staff so unprofessional, no music in bar, nowt. Same on the second night. We were even served a bottle of wine which turned out to be an old bottle filled with water! Breakfast was nice though?? But in the dining room with big windows showing off the beautiful bay, the said same windows are manky dirty and bits of stones and just general badly finished building work outside. I was bitterly let down by my stay. Only good points is that is was quiet, the area is lovely and it was cheap as chips, but I just cannot forgive bad, unfriendly service which costs nothing I'm afraid...

Room Tip: Make it a stipulation that you have what you need before you book e.g. away from the noisy A.C/ heat...

Totally enjoyed our stay here! Friendly staff, nice clean room, good selection of food in the bar downstairs although the service was a little slow. I cannot praise Sinead the girl running the beauty rooms highly enough, nothing was a problem to her! Very talented lady who really knew her products and treatments! Seaweed bath a definite must, totally relaxing! Leisure centre was quiet and clean, we made good use of it! Lovely scenic drive to the hotel and fabulous beach area around the hotel itself. Lovely for an early morning walk. Great value for money and we would definitely return!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a harbour view! Breathtaking! :0)
