“Fantastic venue for a wedding...will be back”
Reviewed September 26, 2011

Attended a Friends wedding at Castle Leslie. We didn't actually stay in the Castle or the Lodge but booked the self catering houses in the Village of Glaslough which is a short walk from the Castle. The houses are fab. They are newly built but the style of the houses is in keeping with the estate. We stayed in a 4 bed house that had two rooms ensuite, main bathroom, toilet down stairs, kitchen and dining room and two sitting rooms. House was very comfortable - just could have done with more pillows. The Wedding in Castle Leslie was fantastic. The Castle itself is lovely - we had a great time exploring all the rooms and the grounds. Wedding was in a marquee off the Castle (but felt like it was part of the Castle). Food was excellent and service was fantastic as well. Wine was topped up very frequently and everybody at the table got their meals at the same time which meant that none of us had to wait. Really impressed with the whole experince here - the only problem was that it was too short. Will be back again.

Be leary of so called specials!! I had a great special for two night stay at the Castle, I then wanted to upgrade to include an evening dinner. I was advised that Dinners would be at what they called Snaffles which was not at the Castle. I thought their prices would be similar, however, as it turned out, Snaffles meals were much cheaper. I feel that that this so called special cost me at least 80-100 eruos more for value received. On the final day of our stay we met the owner of the property who was a very gracious ladies and is responsible for bringing Castle Leslie back to the original grandeur. It is a magnificent property and overall we loved it
in spite of their accounting system. Don heuer

First of all may I say the estate is a lovely spot and the staff are excellent.

However I had a major problem with the hotel. My bedroom had no tv (no big deal as it's nice not to have one all the time) however our room did not have a shower in it. There was a bath with not even a hand held shower. A bucket may have been provided but I didn't even look. I understand the reasons why, as there may be a lack of water pressure in the house.

However if you are paying €200 a night this is simply not good enough. When queried with reception we were told "we've had this complaint before". We should have been told about this when we booked, we simply would not have stayed there if we had known our room didn't have a shower. I asked someone to contact me post the event and I'm still waiting to hear from someone. Compensation should have been offered.

Also beware of the cancellation policy, make sure you check it before you book. We tried to change a week before we arrived from two nights to one and weren't allowed.

Stayed here for two days and had a wonderful time. All the staff were warm, friendly and very accommodating. We had the privilage of staying in Normans Room which was beautiful complete with four poster bed. Only on checking out we mentioned that during our last night we explained that something was in the corner of the room making a banging noise and scraping on the wall!! only then did she mention that this room was haunted!! Reading previous reviews various people statd that the rooms and castle were quite run down and shoddy looking? this is totally not true, the place is steeped in history and everything is unique. Unfortunalty the dining room was closed at this time of year so we had do dine in Snaffles Restaurant which was a wonderful experience and wonderful staff, we dined both nights here. The grounds of the castle were stunning with lots to do and see so you will not be stuck for something to do.
On checking the receptionist (sorry we did not get her name)! was kind enough to show us other rooms as we intend to go back very soon as this is now going to be our regular weekend retreat

Room Tip: research rooms on internet and note which rooms you like, on checking in enquire which are available

We have stayed in the Castle and Lodge both very different but superb. The Castle is enchanting and reminds me of the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as you enter the estate gates a world of its own set in the tranquil village of Glaslough. The staff are courteous, friendly and service second to none. Their is an air of ambience throughout the Castle which makes you feel at home just like one of the family. No awkwardness or snobbery everyone treated the same regardless of celebrity or class. The food is delicious top notch and the Castle candlelight dinner is truly a magical experience. Castle Leslie is a beautiful retreat when you visit you will just want to return. Looking forward to celebrating New Year there.

All previous reviews say the necessary. Stayed in the Lodge overlooking the equestrian centre. Very pleased with room, receptionists, waitresses and waiters, barstaff and cleaners.Food was good.It was nice to be able to walk around the grounds to walk off a meal. Passed Jack at night as he also was out for a stroll. Unfortunately we were unable to visit the Castle as there was a private function happening there and in its grounds. Appreciated the Champagne and chocolates. Would have liked a biscuit and some tissues in room. Enjoyed our visit to the estate.
