“Enchanting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2014 via mobile

Had early afternoon tea and cakes in Ambledown Tea Rooms. We sat outside it was a beautiful setting, not clinical like so many modern day eateries. The china didn't match but it added to it's quaintness. The tables were scattered and lovely flowers in blooming out of all kinds of random vessels like old cast iron kettles. I felt totally relaxed and was reluctant to eventually leave. Tea was lovely and the cakes sumptuous with Tickety Moo ice cream. Will definitely call again when in the Monaghan area.

“QUIRKY!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014

Went here with friends last Saturday evening.
When i originally had enquired about a table i was informed that they operated on a two sitting format. Either 6pm or 8.45pm. One i felt too early and the other a little late, given that by the time you order and get served it could be close to a quarter to 10!!
HOWEVER
The restaurant was quite empty at 8.45....but by 9pm it was full to bursting. People of all shapes and ages arriving with their wine, spirits and beer tucked under their arm - the restaurant doesn't have a drinks licence, but are happy to let you bring your own.

Starter menu is very limited. Garlic bread minestrone soup or bruscheta......that said all were delicious.

Mains consist entirely of pizzas. Quite a variety...but all pizza!! Again they were extremely fresh and flavoursome.
We spent the time between courses browsing the antiques which are displayed all over the restaurant, and then 2 young lads came in and entertained us with a selection of traditional music!!

Just one wee fault....we were seated beside the door, and guests (and SOME staff) kept coming in and leaving the door open. It was quite cold at that time of the night and we must have had to get out of our seats to close the door a dozen times!!!

Overall....the quality of the food was good and i would reccommend you try this unique restaurant/pizzeria!

“Special place.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

Ambledown is a special place well worth a visit when in Glaslough, Co. Monaghan. The village of Glaslough is probably best known for the acclaimed Castle Leslie Estate but Ambledown is well deserving of it's own special place in the life of the village. It is a unique and charming place full of old world grace and beauty and a genuine warm welcome from proprietor and staff. We visited as an adult family for evening pizza having made an earlier reservation. We found everything ready and the selection of pizza on offer was excellent plus salads and fries all at great value. As it was a chilly April evening we decided on a large table beside a big open fire. Outside dining or in the conservatory is also available. Dining here is like going to the home of special friends where you are made feel welcome and at home. Well worth a visit if in the area.

“Quirks galore”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2014

Ambledown is a great little spot tucked away in Glaslough, but well worth a visit. We called in twice last week, both times just for a latte, and enjoyed both visits. On a nice day it's a great spot to soak in a few rays at the back of the property whilst, on a cooler day, there's a choice of open fires to sit in front to toast the toes. There's lots of quirky items (most of them for sale) around the place, whilst the evening menu (all pizzas) looks tasty. So, I would definitely recommend Ambledown Tea Rooms

“Cozy spot for a cup of tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2014 via mobile

After a lovely walk we popped in here for a scone and some tea/coffee, which were lovely. Staff were friendly and chatty. We were even offered a variety of background music! I sat in a cozy seat by a blazing open fire. Decor is cute and quirky. Definitely worth a visit.
