“beautiful home, charming hostess, don't miss this gem”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

If you're visiting anywhere in the area, stay here. Our room and bathroom were spacious, the whole house is decorated with lovely antiques and other items, the breakfast in the dining room made us feel like royalty. We were directed to a fabulous restaurant for dinner which was a very short walk. The menu had a wide array of meals and prices, something for everyone. While the B & B is right off the main road, it's situated in a way that makes it feel like a lovely secluded spot. We also enjoyed watching the horses in the yard behind the property. A country feel but close to the pretty town.

I have been using this B&B for a number of years and would like to spread the word. If Premier Inns are your thing this is not for you but Killeentierna has great character and Irish charm.
Quietly situated 200mtrs from the N3 it could not be better positioned for commuting to Dublin or the North, or for exploring the delights of the Royal County.
The County Club is a 5 minute walk where good food and a fine pint await. Serving food until 10.00pm is a real bonus when travelling times are not ideal.
The establishment is owned and run by Ita Morris, one of County Meath's treasures.
Do not miss Ita's poached eggs for breakfast....the best ever!!
Great value,

We, like the previous reviewer, came across Killeentierna B&B quite by grace, as we were booked for that night at another place, which would have been our second night there; however, we were better for the leave. We are the type to book months in advance so it was a bit of an unexpected adventure to not know where we would be for this night, yet...we felt anything would have been better than to remain at the other B&B that I do not want to mention. So we got on the road and found that a couple places along the way were either right on the busy road, which did not appeal to us, or full....until we found Killeentierna by following the signs from the main road. Big name, “Killeentierna” and equally a Big Hearted very polite elderly gent met us at the door and welcomed us immediately, as if we were completely expected.

We took soft needed refuge there as the room was pleasant, clean and bright. We did not have the bedroom with the tub, but it looked pretty nice from the hall. In our room the morning light came into the window and there were birds feeding there newly born in a nest at the eves. Our room held the same name as the daughter at the establishment, Ita, which we learned was an old traditional name in Ireland and not a misspelling of Ida. Ita and her Mother were very hospitable and kind to us. Breakfast was generous and fresh and just whatever we wanted. Tea, coffee and drinks were continuously available in the guest dinning center and the table and benches on the well-kept lawn made a great place to sip in the tea and the fresh air. Trust me; this is a very nice place to stay. Not too fancy, but adorned in brilliant simplicity. Some B&B’s gain credit for their food or their large rooms, but this one it is for the genuine people and the sense of realistic well being.

And, YES, do go to the pub/restaurant which is just a short walk down the road. We did... and found ourselves there for hours… really ...and since we do not drink, that was amazing. It was a very friendly place as is the B&B, and the food was very good. Even our fussy-eater teenager loved the food. The tables and chair where so comfortable that it was like having dinner in a living room. Nice and easy!

The Killeentierna B&B contributed to our successful visit to Ireland and strengthened our spirits with the cheerful honest personalities of the family who runs the Killeentierna. This B&B is simple and kind, dependable and refreshing, the salt-of-the-earth people and a place where one can take refuge from the trying roads and byways of Ireland. It is off that main road far enough to reduce the noise of a too busy, too narrow highway, to a mere hum someplace beyond the place you will find great peace.

Don't miss the poem that hangs in the lobby called "A Tourist's Prayer” It was so funny as it reflects upon so much reality of traveling. I highly recommend this B&B and will forever keep the people that run this gentle B&B in a small place in my heart that says "This is the people of Ireland" and they are good.

Killeentierna House in Dunshaughlin, County Meath, is about half an hour drive from the airport. A friend and I stumbled upon this cozy and comfortable b+b on our last night in Ireland, and though the rooms were small, the beds were very comfortable, the hot water and pressure plentiful, the rooms clean and quiet, and the hostess friendly and engaging. It is in a rural setting, but near a main road, and a five minute walk away is a very good pub with excellent salmon. The owner of the b+b is cheerful, accomodating, loves her job, and helped us plot our route to the Hill of Tara (20 minutes away) and to the airport. Great place to land!
