“Fantastic. GO STAY THERE”
Reviewed May 27, 2007

My son (aged 7) stayed here for one night. We had been to see a Stunt show at Slane Castle. It is a most beautiful hotel, newly opened. The rooms are gorgeous, two king beds, staff are so so nice. We had dinner after Slane which was at 10.00pm, and there was no problem with my son being in the restaurant at that time. A 10 out of 10 hotel.

We have stayed 3 nights in this hotel in the past 2 weeks and things keep getting worse. On our first visit we got an interconnecting room in which the interconnecting doors had not been locked. On our last visit we opened the door to our room to find a lady on the toilet and man in his boxing shorts. After returing to reception we got a different room which had no bath, why build a new hotel with only half the rooms having a bath? We finally got a room which was very nice. Although they advertise a mini bar it's is not stocked unless you request it, silly. We ordered room service which is the most expensive I've ever seen €20 for burger and chips, the food was appauling, the two small burgers hed been so over cooked they were like rubber, the chips which were frozen chips was still hard in the middle. Breakfast again was a bit of a disappointment for a Marriott. There appears to be a lot of penny pinching in this hotel and it really does not live up to Marriott standards.

Stayed 2 nights over May bank hols weekend. Hotel is brand new so is really only finding its feet and there are little things that aren't quite right, but hopefully will get sorted.
Good bits:
-rooms are lovely, flat screen tv, nice, modern bathroom (but only shower no bath) comfy new Marriott beds
-the stay was top value at 95 euro per room for 2 per night
-Ashbourne and district was good for food. We had a fantastic chinese meal at Eatzen, and good steaks at the Snailbox
-pool is lovely and there is a health club
- staff are very helpful when you ask for something

Loose ends:
- hotel is so new there is very little atmosphere - in lobby, in bar, in restaurant,in health club
- you can't go to the pool as a spectator to watch if you aren't going in. This is a shame - in Druids Glen Marriott you can put on shoe covers and sit by the pool reading/watching kids/husband. So lovely pool but couldn't join our company if you didn't want a swim.
- gym machines good but no one around to give you towels/show how equipment works (empty gym and some unfinished rooms/corridors)
-breakfast the poorest I have ever had in a Marriott. No grapefruit juice, no omelettes/fried eggs etc, poor choice of fresh fruit - no chef and overall done on a shoestring and very little choice
- no where to put anything in shower - no shelf, hook
- mini bar not stocked
-ice machine not working (although staff did fetch us ice)
- no welcome as a Marriott rewards silver member - other hotels either leave a welcome card, or some chocs or fruit
-was supposed to get a reward voucher on check out as part of the offer booked. No one knew about it and said it would come from Marriott. On return home Marriott say it should have been given by the hotel-
-no nice turn down service with chocs as in other Marriotts'

Overall hopefully the hotel will get sorted. If I get the same value I would go back - knowing what to expect. We have stayed at Marriotts Druid Glen 3 times in the last year and really it is far superior.
The Ashbourne doesn't seem to think it is a Marriott and does't really measure up. If Druids Glen and Ashbourne end up the same price there really is no choice. If you get an offer and want a break - fine

Just got back from our First trip to Ireland and stayed at this beautiful hotel. It is very modern, spacious and has great amenities -but what made a great First Impression for me is the superb staff. The Front desk and restaurant staff are very friendly, helpful and absolutely a pleasure. I could not thank them enough for being so willing to help and give local area tips, directions, share cultural stories, best practices, etc. They go out of their way to help and made us comfortable. They truly live to the statement" At your Service".There is one restaurant in the hotel and a lounge area. The menu selection is limited and the food is quite mediocre and expensive. On our first night, we had dinner at the restaurant and although there's only 2 parties present, it took our food 45 minutes to arrive (nothing fancy-Marriott Burgers and Chicken). However, all of this did not matter because we were entertained by our server and the supervisor on duty with their stories, helpful tips and friendliness. On the second night, we decided to try the Red Lounge (Sandwiches and drinks). Once again, there's about 3 parties but it took a long time to be served because I think they were understaffed. On the remaining nights, we decided to try the sandwiches and hot food items at Apple Green across the street and some restaurants in the City centre. The hotel does not have a business center open and the front desk person willingly took care of some of the business I needed to do- Checking flights, online check-in, etc.
There is not much to do in Ashbourne but the hotel has a magnificent Wellness Center- big pool, whirpool (for up to 10 people), sauna and a complete fitness gym. There is direct access from the rooms to the fitness center. The only drawback is that the center does not open until 8 AM. My husband likes to work out by 6 AM so he was not able to use all the equipment in the fitness center. The hotel is quite a distance from Dublin- Taxi ride is between 30-46 Euros, depending on the time of travel. The bus station is about a mile and a half walk from the hotel. The bus fare is 4.50 Euros and takes you right in the heart of Upper O'Connell street.
The hotel opened only 3 days prior to our arrival and you can definitely smell and feel the "newness" in the place. Only the 3rd floor was ready for occupancy and we did have a slight problem with the TV and low/no Water pressure in the beginning. Again, these issues were taken cared of immediately. The staff also followed up to make sure that everything is OK.
