“Lovely stay!”
Reviewed March 20, 2009

Stayed in this hotel for a 1 night dinner, B & B. We were a bit early but were able to check in right away and our room was ready. We were pleasantly surprised to find our room on the 5th floor, to the front, with great view over the surrounding countyside and roundabout. The room itself was extremely comfortable, well furnished with lovely bathroom. About an hour later my DH and myself headed down to the leisure area for swim. Again we found this to be impeccibly clean and well kept. Its not exactly a pool for serious swimming as its more laid out for children. But we enjoyed our "dip", our jacuzzi, steam and sauna and we passed a pleasant few hours there. It was not too busy either.

We had been told on booking that the restaurant would be closed on the Sunday night and we would be eating in the bar. However, we were led to believe that they would be serving the dinner menu in the bar. This was not so and we choose our "dinner" from the bar menu. I didn"t particularly like the Red Bar; one half of it had high stools and high tables and the other half had sofas and low tables. IMO not really suitable for having a meal. Aside from that small quibble we found the food to be excellent with great service.

We made use of the leisure centre the following morning before breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast as a result.

The only downside for me was the heat and stuffiness of the bedroom. We like our fresh air at night but the window only opened a tiny bit and the aircon did not appear to work. Its only a small thing as I feel it would have been worse had it been too cold!

Overall really enjoyed our stay there and would go back if we got the chance to do so!
Found staff to be friendly and efficient.

Stayed here one night prior to return to US. I had a sick child and the front desk staff and manager were able to get him a doctor's appointment in 15 minutes...the doctor stayed late for us. Fantastic. When we got back to the hotel the front desk staff had gotten my son some children's books because they knew he would have to stay in bed. I just can't explain how good the service was. The hotel is also very nice and the restaurant had excellent food. I will be glad to stay here anytime. Thank you Ashbourne Marriott.

An interestingly designed new building in a barren area north of Dublin. The type of hotel where you have check your small change on the bedside table to remind you which country you're staying in!
Check in was polite and as we had already reserved a superior suite we were 'upgraded' to some other style of room with an apparent increase in opulence. Too big with a useless separate second sitting/work area. The muted offer of help with our luggage was definitely not 4* standard
The room was distinctly cold and the aircon was turned off. (the temperature outside the hotel was -3C) As is often the case the heat could not be controlled properly and the fan was noisy.
The hideous red bar downstairs was faceless and devoid of any character.
The restaurant was better and surprisingly the the food quite good. Wine markups were obscene. They were fully booked (Saturday night) with local outside guests and it was with some difficulty we got a table. No mention was made of this when we checked in and to be treated like a second class citizen when we were paying 240 euros for a room is just not good enough.
Breakfast was adequate. Security in the car park could be an issue, judging by the amount of broken car window glass on the ground. Potentially rich pickings I suppose in a pretty deprived area.
We'd not stay again.

  • Liked — The teutonic politeness of the Bavarian assistant restaurant manager
  • Disliked — The overall lack of character .

wel this was my 2nd time staying in the marriott. i was staying in the Ashburne House Hotel till Friday Noon and decided to stay in the marriott till saturday morning. on check in, we were yet again welcomed but what seemed as a lovely receptionist..but after a few mins, it started to appear as if she had not a clue what she was doing. She rang them manager, who arrived about 15 mins later.i had to nearly bend down to understand her, she was so small and thus, was hard to hear her. the bed rooms YET again were fab!!!! we went for dinner in la bucca which was so nice and reasonably priced. we arrived back to the hotel around 11 when their was a argument taking place with the night porter and manager. i felt this was very unprofessional. to add to this, we waited nearly 30 mintues for 2 drinks,as the barman kept going into the back for 5 mins here and 5 mins there.this was a disgrace. the next morning, we got our wake up call at 8 for breakfast because when i was staying in the marriott bout 6 months ago, breakfast was a total disgrace.this time around i was suprised.we were greeted at the door but a young boy, pat i think, who with a professional yet friendly attitude seated us to our table. for once, service was efficient. he had a waitress come up to us immediately, asking if we wanted tea and coffee.......which was great............considering we never even got cofeee or tea last time. i have to say the breakfast was immense and it greatly improved. i mentioned it to the supervisor on my way out and he thanked me and asked if everything was ok?. the only problem with breakfast, i mentioned to him is that their wasnt enough newspapers for customers to read. immediately, he went to reception, and brought back 2 newspapers with him, got a waitress to get 2 take away coffee s and gave them to us for our journey. this type of service should be seen in every part of the hotel.............not just the resturaunt!!! great stay overall. we will be back

The second time I have stayed at this hotel and very good again.

It is typical Marriott standard, very spacious rooms, comfy beds etc. This time (after having a super meal in the restaurant last time) we ate in the hotel bar and a really fantastic meal was had, the menu did look standard bar fayre but the grub was fantastic, no complaints at all.

Health club was good again, only gripe was the temperature of the pool, too cold, I meant to feed that back to the staff but forgot.

As long as you are not looking for a picturesque location (the hotel sits beside a roundabout) then this hotel is great as a base for touring round, but also plenty to do if staying in, with the health club, and I made good use of the free wifi !!

Hotel was fine, and typical of a Marriott. Room was VERY spacious and comfortable. bed extremely nice. However we had booked a twin and we were given a double. The bar was nice, modern and fun. The breakfast was extremely poor. VERY expensive at over 15 euro for a lukewarm buffet and the tea/coffee service was a disgrace. Overall, the hotel was comfortable, if noisy. One very unpleasant point was when we found a used condom under one of our beds.

A fairly typical Marriott, some design faults (Leisure facilities at the opposite end of the hotel to the rooms mean a walk through the lobby) but rooms are good, spacious, clean and comfortable. The restaurant and bar are pretty good, food isn't great but welll cooked and tasty but tends to be expensive. Breakfast was a major let down, I have stayed in many Marriotts accross the world, the breakfasts are some of the best in the industry, but not here, very basic, poor service and little choice.
