“Try the Soup!”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

Stopped in for a quick lunch - I had thought it was a brand new enterprise but upon entering realised that it was a reincarnation of the Square Meal cafe/restaurant. It is more of a deli/sandwich place now but the quality is still excellent even though there is not such a choice on the menu as before. I had soup and a sandwich and I have to say that it was the best vegetable soup I have ever tasted! When paying I mentioned this and the gentleman in charge (the owner perhaps??) said that they make all their own soups fresh every day from scratch - and you can tell the difference. I have been back since for the same soup and will continue to sing it praises to everyone I meet. The food is good as is the service - Well done The Pantry.

“Wonderful Hospitality”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

We visited The Pantry on Saturday 24th November. It was such a pleasant surprise to be made feel so welcome. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by all three people working there at the time. The menu was clearly explained to us,as was the proceedure for ordering, paying and delivery of the food to our table. We were only spending 12 euro, but, it was obvious that they value every customer, regardless of how much they are spending. As we left I spoke to the manager/ owner? to thank him and acknowledge the warm hospitality of the place. He explained that they know and value their customers. Its heartening to visit such a cheerful and welcoming place.Cant wait to visit Porllaoise and especially The Pantry again

“afternoon tea”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

Myself plus my three little girls dropped in for a quick tea plus three hot choclates and a slice of homemade apple pie, the pie was so yummy and a great size portion for a little girl, so enough to have some myself also, which i will go back for again, staff very friendly and treated little girls like other customers, not kids, as they were very happy with their cups and saucers and marshmellows, the salads looked so fresh im sure ill be in for lunch soon, there are quite a few places now to have cakes, coffee e.c.t now in portlaoise but lovely friendly staff like here make a differance

“Very welcoming and lovely food.”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

We were passing an hour or two in Portlaoise on Saturday and 7 of us, including 2 children, liked the look of The Pantry and popped in for a coffee. We were immediately greeted with a friendly hello and whilst we ordered our drinks and food, two tables were put together for us. One of us had a salad and two of us had the apple tart also. We all found the place to be clean and bright and the food was really nice. My only negative was it is a little bit pricey.I loved the blue & white table covers and ware. Very sweet.
If I lived nearby, I would definately consider it for lunch or a quick cuppa. The owners (I think?) were very friendly and having read the bad review about it been un-child friendly, I couldn't disagree more strongly. There was a table next to us with a small child in a pram and an older child of 7ish who, like our kids, sat quitely at the table. Not a problem for families, if your children are normal, behaved kids. They would be as welcome here as in any other public place.
We left as we arrived-with a warm friendly 'goodbye' from the staff.

“Lovely place, friendly staff but a bit pricey”
Reviewed September 12, 2012 via mobile

I visited the pantry a few weeks go. Just had a slice of carrot cake and a bottle of water. The cake was delicious, very well presented and tasty and the staff were very friendly and helpful. But I did find the place a little pricey. I believe it came to 7.80 approx (not certain of exact price but it was 7 something ) I found this very steep for what it was . tasty but it was a bit too expensive for my liking Im afraid

Thank you for you review and we are glad you enjoyed your visit. . It would appear that you were over charged and we would like to sincerely apologize for this error. The total for your purchase should have been €6 exactly (€3.50 for the cake and €2.50 for 500ml of mineral water as per prices displayed) . I would be grateful if you could contact us and we can arrange a refund of the amount overcharged to you.
Thank you again for your review and we look forward to hearing from you.
