“GirlsNight Away”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

I stayed in this hotel on Saturday 17th August for a one night "Hen Party" with 13 family and friends. I have to say it was fantastic. As the hen, I knew very little about what was on the agenda but the hotel staff certainly added to the experience. The venue was great and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Even though the hotel was full and very busy we all had a very positive experience. My fantistic Bridesmaid Karen had a Cocktail Making Master Class organised and Roy was our " Master"!! A great experience that I would highly recommend. Roy made sure everyone was involved and many of us met him again the next day and it was lovely to have him asking about how the rest of the night went. We also had dinner in the Foundry resturaunt and I was very impressed. Claire and all the staff were so friendly and made the night very special with a few extra surprises! Next morning we all enjoyed varied breakfasts and that set us up fir the journey home. I will defenitely make a return visit to The Portlaoise Heritage and would recommend it. Thank you all so much.

This was a fab hotel from start to finish. I organized a family reunion for over 3o people. Sandra B was my contact person, who was more than Brilliant. She set a high standard to beat, but every staff member that we met lived up to this. Friendly, helpful, accommodating, patient don't cover there vast skills.
We had two family dinners in private rooms which were fab, the food of a high standard, with more than enough and beautiful deserts.
We will be returning to this hotel. Just great.

On the positive side the hotel is very central with easy access to the town. The lobby is very impressive and the check in staff and bar staff friendly and helpful.

The room was more 3 star then 4 star, dated and dull, but the bed was comfy.

We ate in the restaurant across the road which is part of the hotel, this was extremely disappointing. We planned to have a relaxed dining experience and asked the Hotel staff for a recommendation. The Foundry is more 'fast food restaurant' rather then 'fine dining'. The food was poor and over priced. The staff unfriendly and the atmosphere chilly and unwelcoming, definitely would not return.

The breakfast in the hotel was average, the usual array of food, nothing special but perfectly adequate.

Would return to the hotel because of its central location. Price 125 euro B&B.

Stayed here with friends last weekend for €118 euro per room. The girl at front of house was lovely and told us everything we needed to know. The rooms were spotless, the hotel itself was spotless. We had dinner that night in Spagos restaurant, can't remember our waiters name but he was from Kildare, lovely guy and very friendly. It was one of our friends birthdays, he made a fuss of her and put candles in her dessert. The meal was fabulous, couldn't fault it, I've since tried to recreate their bruschetta! When we came back to the hotel about 3:30am the night manager was lovely too. Breakfast was a bit hard to work out, there was no real flow to the buffet and tea and coffee was served at the table but it was a very nice breakfast. The only small problem I would have was it was hard to find the hotel and it's a multi storey car park not operated by the hotel. We were given a hotel voucher for the car park on checkout but still had to pay 6 euro for parking. But that didn't really take away from the overall experience.

Fab night with friends in a fab hotel. Have recommended this place to a few people already.

Stayed in this hotel end of July , was looking forward to my break but was quiet let down by the time I got to my room . Room very dark ,small and not very well prepared for customers . I complained and was shown another which wasn't much better . Any way after seeing 4 rooms I setteled on 1 . Was a big room but still old fashioned and could take a much bigger bed .Tv old and bad picture . I like to relax in a nice bed room when i go away , but got a bad vibe from this one .
Then when i went to leisure centre , thought pool was very cold and Jacuzzi didnt even have water in it . No apology for it either.
Now I must say the staff all over hotel were very nice and helpful , thanks to all of them .

The front of house staff were a credit to the establishment at all times extremely helpful and knowledegable. Clair in Spagos made everybody welcome and worked very hard to ensure you enjoyed your visit, unfortunately the limited nightly menu let it down a little. The breakfast was varied and of good quality. The room we were allocated was extremely hot for all of our stay which did not aid a restful sleep. In fact the whole of the landing and hallway on the first floor was hot at all times. That said the hotel itself was clean and well cared for so it was easy to rise above the slight negatives. My family and I would have no qualms about recommending this hotel because as already stated whilst the hotel is not not perfect (not far off though) the hotel staff from top to bottom make the overall experience and we will be returning in the near future.

Room Tip: All the rooms are of a good standard

Delighted to find such a modern hotel in Portlaoise, though we suffered a little in the July heat without air conditioning or floor fans. A comfortable room and bath, with pleasant service at the front desk, who helped with some parking difficulties. Would stay again, if in the area.
