i stayed for a weekend in this lovely bnb, ann and her assistant mags made my stay so enjoyable,
wonderful hosts, the breakfast was superb, i prefer to stay in bnb rather than a hotel, your only a number in a hotel, my room number 4 was lovely and had wi fi and great tv channels. i have recommended this bnb to all my friends in Belfast

I stayed here in July 2010 (despite what the date actually says!) whilst attending a Hurling match in the town. Laois County Lodge provided an enjoyable stay with excellent facilities. Anne, the host, was very nice.

We stayed three nights at Ann's B&B at a time when Ann the hostess was not particularly busy so without extra charge she upgraded us to her extra large two twin and one double bed suite in the quiet rear of house. The view out the back window was of the quaint neighborhood with adorable kittens romping around. The room was bright, clean, beds were soft and nice and the bathroom was spacious with a shower. We were on the second floor, up a tall flight of stairs but quiet and lovingly decorated.

The cheery dining room was extra large and the decor was warm yellow colors and quite nice with antiques, fine table ware and fresh flowers with an elegant feel. Ann has an eye for decoration and seems to enjoy collecting interesting tea pots. Breakfast were quite nice, complete with fresh tomatoes grown by a friend in Dublin.

In our three week trip in Ireland, Ann was the most personable B&B host we had. She knew we were traveling by public transportation so she offered to drive us to the nearby Dun Amase and even walked up to view it with us. This is a must see if in this part of the Midlands. Then because we needed to go into Athy, she drove us partway and helped us find a taxi for the rest of the trip. It was so lovely to chat with her that I rather wished we would have asked her out to one of our evening dinners in town. This is a B&B with a personal touch.

If coming into this part of the Midlands, I would definitely stay at Laoise County Lodge again. If you are driving it is easy access, just off a main road with parking just in front. If coming by bus, the stop is 1 1/2 blocks away, near the hospital. Also we found a laundress within a block who did our laundry for us.

very average BB at each stage (room, breakfast, etc.). No garden. Definitely should not cost more than 30 euro per person.

After spending the day hiking around the Wicklow Mountains, we headed to Portlaois, as our next place to visit was the Rock of Dunamase. We picked Laois County Lodge to spend the night so we could hit the Rock the next morning. It turned out to be a great pick! Anne Barrett, our host, was great! The room was nice, had plenty of space for the 3 of us, and after our trip we all agreed that Anne had the best breakfast of the B&Bs we stayed at. Don't get me wrong, the other places we stayed at had good breakfasts too, but Anne's was the best. My favorite part of it was the coffee! I don't know what it is about Ireland, but finding good coffee seems to be a hassle. However, Anne brewed us a fantastic pot of coffee! The only other place I had fantastic coffee was at a fancy hotel in Cong :). The rest of the time, it was just... meh.

As for the town of Portlaois itself, we didn't get to explore it much, as we were setting a hectic pace that day. We arrived in the evening, met with Anne, and pretty much headed straight for the nearest pub. The pub was a good time, with live music and all. But in the morning, we checked out the Rock, then left town for our next destination. So I can't tell you much about Portlaois except that it's pretty small. But if you're planning to check out the Rock of Dunamase, I'd highly recommend giving Laois County Lodge a stay, even if for 1 night.

I loved Ireland so I'll definitely be going back, and I'll definitely be stopping by Anne's place for another night!
