“Pastoral Setting, Great Hospitality”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

We spent the first two nights of our Irish holiday at the Dollardstown House. It is an historical home in an idyllic setting. We were greeted by Andrew, who arranged for scones and tea upon our arrival. The bed was comfortable, the duvet warm and the breakfasts bountiful. We have yet to stop talking about Antoinette's soda bread, made fresh each morning. We eagerly recommend Dollardston House for its tranquility, and Antoinette and Andrew for the warmth of their hospitality.

We had the pleasure of visiting Dollardstown House recently and despite bad weather on the night of arrival, the house itself and our hostess Antoinette afforded us a very warm Irish welcome. This may not sound unusual but it was, as Antoinette is Dutch. The house itself is full of 'Olde World' charm as it dates back even longer that I do and the drawing room had a lovely quaint atmosphere which was lit up by a fire in the massive old fireplace. The house is secluded with a nice garden in which the wild rabbits and birds appeared to enjoy themselves almost as much as we did. The home baking and locally sourced shampoos and shower gels complemented the excellent service provide by Antoinette and nothing was too much trouble for her in her quest to ensure we had a fabulous experience. We will definitely return later in the year and bring some other friends with us to share the experience.

Room Tip: The Chocolate Room was devoid of Chocolate!! but still very nice

We spent 4 nights in Dollardstown House in mid-June and, like the other reviewers, found it absolutely excellent. A wonderful old house with really idyllic pastoral views but still convenient for lots of locations - ideal for Kildare and Carlow but Kilkenny, Laois, Wicklow and Dublin also within pretty easy range. Exceptionally friendly and hospitable hosts and a lovely room with crisp white linen, great shower and lots of extras (including a selection of magazines and books). We were offered scones on arrival and had wonderful freshly cooked breakfasts which set us up for the day! Overall, a really pleasant stay - we hope to return.

We were lucky enough to arrive at the wonderful Dollardstown House and meet Antoinette who gave us the warmest of welcomes. She is the perfect hostess (nothing too much trouble) and as others have said before within ten minutes we felt we were talking to a good friend. The glorious three course dinner we ate in the cosy dining room was delightful. We also had our lovely Irish breakfast in here, making us both think life doesn't get any better than this. With family photos all around and a log fire this was the Ireland we both love. Our bedroom was so cosy with great views of the front garden and drive. More than once we thought we wished we could stay a little bit longer. So thank you Antoinette and Andrew for making our two days very special.

We stayed with Antoinette and Andrew for one night as we were attending a wedding in the local area. Our first impression of the house as we pulled through the gates was fantastic and we were made feel very welcome by Antoinnette who came out to the car to greet us. The house is a historic property which is being lovingly restored by the owners. The bedrooms are full of character with really comfy beds with high quality bed linen. Our room had an ensuite with a great shower along with a wc and wash hand basin. The view from the bedroom was lovely with rabbits, pheasants and cattle all rambling around. The owners arranged for a local taxi company to bring us to the wedding and we were given a key to the front door to let ourselves in when we got back which was a lovely touch. Breakfast the following morning was excellent with a full irish breakfast and wonderful home baked brown bread. Following breakfast we settled down in the lounge to read the Sunday papers with a pot of coffee. We felt completely at ease in Dollardstown house which really did feel like a home from home and we would definitely reccommend staying here in the future.

Just back from a night stay at Dollardstown House for TriAthy. We brought our 3 children and my husband stayed an extra night. There was a double room for us and the kids had a kingsize bed and a single in their room.

Can't praise Antionette and Andrew enough for the warm welcome and friendly and attentive service. Nothing is too much trouble and they really do go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and have everything you need.

Home-baked scones were lovely on arrival and I can recommend the full Irish breakfast.

Great value for money and a lovely house on lovely surroundings. Furnishings are in keeping with the house.

Kids are asking when we can come back - hopefully next year!

I stayed at Dollardstown House for six nights in March. I really needed a break. I had a very nice and welkome stay. Antoinette and Andrew are wonderfull people and I really did feel at home. I stayed in the Iris room, a really lovely room, with authentic furniture and old big windows witth long tall curtains and shutters. It. Is a very warm and cosy room and I would recommend it to everybody. Dollardstown House is a beautifull place, very authentic. I think that the surrounding area's are really beautifull. I did love Wicklow Mountains and the old Celtic remains. It was my firts time in Ireland and I felt overwelmd by the beauty of this country and the kindness of it's people. I was there during St. Patricks day and wathed the parade in Athy and then was taken to a pub by some friendly lokal people. One week was just not enough and I certainly will go back. I would like to thank Antoinette and Andrew for a very warm and welkome stay and I can certainly recommend everybody a stay at Dollardstown House. I never will forget the wonderfull time I had there and in Ireland. And by the way, the breakfast is really very good and a good way to start the day.
