“Pay the 3 euro for the view!”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

The fort itself is mildly interesting... the views you can see from here are stunning. I'm not sure you could see what we saw from a public place nearby. Honestly, my best landscape photos from Ireland were taken right here, and I almost missed it to save 3 euro.

“Good stop with great views and waterfall”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

The fort is interesting and climbing around it is fun. The horses and friendly donkey nearby just add to the charm. The waterfall was an unexpected bonus. The antiquity of the place is striking, thought I would have liked more information about the excavations done thus far on the fort.

“Interesting fort in a lovely location - but not helped by rather tacky presentation”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

Dunbeg Fort is a promontory fort situated on the cliffside along the wonderfully scenic Slea Head road west of Dingle. It was built as a defensive site in the 8th/9th century and includes grassy banks and circular drystone ramparts. It's quite a small site but worth a stop - but it would be greatly improved if the presentation, including information leaflet and the provision of information boards, were done properly. It has an amateurish air of something that mainly provides money for the private company running it, however much they appreciate its history. The plastic fencing around the site is pretty unattractive too, and I'm sure cliffside security could be provided in a more sensitive style. We didn't bother with the film, because we were put off by the offhand manner of the staff member in the info office.

So, a disappointment in spite of the location and the historical interest of the site.

“Great Prehistoric Fort”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

The beautiful views along the cliffs of Dingle Bay and the amazing stone fort is something to see. Then you can walk across and see the video presentation about history of area and they have Restaurant next door

“Interesting short film & amazing views”
Reviewed July 7, 2012

Well worth a look & a walk around - a bit nerve wracking for those with young kids however it's well cordoned off from the cliff. Fantastic views for photos.
