“Perfect Traditional Seaside Holiday”

Great little cottage situated in the heart of Spiddal Village within walking distance of several sandy beaches, pubs and shops. Ideal for family wanting some on the door step fun on the beach with children. For the rainy days there are plenty of castle's, gem mines and trips out to be had. The local spar shop (attached to the garage) has a great hot food takeaway counter mainly catering for the lunch time trade, although on Sunday it runs on abit longer into the early evening - (beef, mash and veg - bacon chop, potatoes and veg, curry, whole hot chickens all for around Euro 4.50 - generous portions). This shop has everything you need although more pricey than the UK but found it very convenient to top up as you go rather than do a big shop. Fuel is cheaper than the UK. If travelling from abroad and you have the room in your car you would be wise to bring dried foods such as cereals, jams, soup etc and wine as these proved expensive. Fishing nets and traditional seaside kids toys are sold here also. In the smaller spar shop in the village I found a proper kids fishing rod for 15 Euro's - which was great and completed my nephew's dreams. The library was closed down due to staff retirement and so you had to go to the local pub for wifi-internet. The cottage has traditional upright seating. There is no bath (which is understandable due to size of the cottage) but 3 toilets and 2 showers was plenty. Bring a handful of 2 Euro coins for the electric meter. Parking straight outside the back door. You would be hard pressed to find a more ideally situated cottage complete with modern facilities. We couldn't have been made more welcome by our hosts.

“An exceptionally special place to stay in the West of Ireland.”
Reviewed July 26, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

From the outset Carmel and Martin exrended a warm Irish welcome to us to Lal's coattge. We arrived very late in the night and were greeted by Carmel with her homemade scones and jam! The cottage is everything you would expect from a traditional Irish homestead but with with all the modern conveniences you need for a perfect stay. There are 2 lovely beaches just across the road with a health food shop and wellbeing centre just two steps away not to mention Spiddal's wonderful public library in what must be thee most picturesque setting for a library anywhere in the world. During our stay we had both family and friends join us and there was plenty of room for everyone with three toilets an enusite and a separate bathroom. If you are looking for an authentic Irish cottage experience in the West of Ireland then Lal's cottage is the place to go. A very special place indeed.

“Prettiest cottage in Ireland, great location, excellent host.”
Reviewed July 21, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

I was with my two adult daughters on holiday in Ireland and spent a week at Lals cottage in spiddal. Cottage located centrally within walking distance of pubs, safe beaches, walks, restaurants, shops and craft village. Carmel the owner was extremely hospitable and provided everything we needed including scones and cakes! Very comfortable stay and the only thing that could possibly improve it would be wifi but that was available at a couple of the pubs for free. I would highly recommend booking this cottage for anyone wanting to explore the west of Ireland and the Aran islands.

“it feels like home!”

Steeped in tradition, this 18th century thatched cottage has been tastefully renovated to accommodate the fussiest of vacationers. With three bedrooms, 2 full baths and an en suite powder room, it has space for everyone. And with its awesome, fully applianced kitchen (dishwasher, washer/dryer. microwave and toaster plus the usual fridge and range), it is easy to make lavish dinners. Located steps from Spiddal beach and across from the helpful, internet equipped library, it is the perfect place to escape while traveling through Connemara, heading to the Aran Islands, or wandering the winding streets of wonderful Galway! MOST IMPORTANTLY, CARMEL'S WONDERFUL BAKED GOODS WILL MAKE YOU FEEL A MOST WELCOMED GUEST!

“Wonderful "total return" rental with a great location and top notch hospitality”
Reviewed June 20, 2013 for a stay in November 2012

Still remembering our lovely week at Carmel and Martin's charming cottage. Perfect for our needs in so many ways. Very close to Galway city, but with a country village setting, Tigh Lal was a wonderful base for touring Connemara and enjoying the city offerings as well. We loved the town of Spiddal, being able to walk to buy groceries, stroll the beach paths across the road, check out the library, chat with the very friendly locals, and zip down a block or two to the local pubs by night to hear fabulous live music by very talented regulars. While at the pub who should we run into but...Carmel and Martin!
They are the friendliest hosts one could imagine, the kind that make you feel like you're right at home, and did everything they could to make our visit as satisfying as possible. And so caring--Carmel would stop by to drop off homemade cookies and yummy brown bread, but, since we were full of questions about Spiddal and the surrounding area, would end up staying for a cup of tea and a visit by the fire. Loved the whole experience. Could move in permanently tomorrow.

“A Rare Find”
Reviewed May 26, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We stayed in tigh Lal's on two occasions - both were short stays. Our daughter and husband were already there and we visited. From the minute we arrive at the cottage we loved it. We met Carmel and Mairtin shortly after we arrived and they have to be the best hosts we have ever met. They bent over backwards to ensure that our stay was just perfect. We enjoyed their company as they were very interesting, knowledgeable and extremely kind. On arrival there were scones & buns left for us which we thoroughly enjoyed. They were more dropped in later in the week also. We had all the necessities available to us when we arrived. Apart from the milk,Tea, Coffee, sugar etc., there were loads of extra items in the press along with dishwasher tabs and washing powder in case you needed them before you got to the shop. The cottage is amazing, so authentic and cosy. It is in the centre of Spiddal, minutes from the beach and minutes from the shops and pubs. The pub around the corner had traditional music from Thursdays onwards and it was outstanding. I believe the week before we arrived there were 42 musicians there playing trad! The people are lovely always eager to have a chat. We visited the library too and the lady there was extremely helpful and kind to our grandchild. the craft village is only minutes walk away and again well worth a visit. It can be hard to find a holiday location that ticks all the boxes .....To find a beautiful cottage set in a lovely community near everything, set in what i would describe is old Ireland with hosts that ensure that your stay will be memorable ..... not that is RARE! Snap up a week here and you will not be sorry! Enjoy!!
