10 of us eat at the Pier Head on the Sunday night of Cruinne Na Mad the boat festival in Kinvara. it was a really busy time and the restaurant was packed, but we still received excellent service and a great meal. All the meat and fish that we ordered were fresh and of the highest quality and cooked perfectly. M

First off, you can't have a more lovely setting for a seafood restaurant in a more charming coastal town. The Pier Head is blessed with the right location for serving seafood. While driving from Galway back to Ballyvaughn my family was screaming for "food", "food" & "food". After seeing the Dunguaire Castle coming into town we decided to park in the first spot we could find and hunt for food. We found the Pier Head quite easily as we walked along the water. It's clearly a local favorite as many of the patrons seemed to know what appeared to be the owner of the restaurant who was greeting folks as they entered. The menu seemed fine in an average expected sorta way. My wife had mussels. I had sea bass. My son had fish sticks and potato. I suppose the best way to sum up my feelings about this place is that everything was "OK", but nothing was notable and nothing was superb. The decor is a bit dated and the place has seen some high traffic over the years. The wait staff was not particularly remarkable nor very upbeat. The more "senior" waitstaff seemed jaded because maybe they've been there too long. The newer and younger waitstaff might just be following what they see from above. Either way, a refresh of decor, staff and chef might shake things up a bit and give The Pier Head a "click up" in the town pecking order of "best of the best".....

Probably the most expensive meal in Kinvara. Has a nice outdoor seating area, and a somewhat dated interior. The service was ok, and the food was good. Credit cards accepted.

beautiful part of ireland to visit but give this place a miss .staff seem uninterested in the place and decor is gruby in places .food is overpriced and not up to the standard that the place claims .main course are listed as coming with spuds or chips or salade but you are charged an extra 2 euro for these .seafood chowder is terriable with hardly any taste and service is slow .i asked for a rare stake and got overcooked cheao cut of meat .the owner snapped when we stood at entrance looking for a table for two .waited 15 minutes to be seated and no cutlery on table .the owner would need to go and learn some buinness skills starting with manners .would not visit again ever

When evaluating out trip at the end which took us through western Ireland and London, this dinner kept coming up as a favorite. Lovely restaurant located on the harbor. Delicious fresh food.
