Description: Our 'Gentian @ St Georges' is a brasserie with a twist: serving dishes to share with robust, sunny flavours, typically from a contemporary Irish, European palette with good old comfort food thrown in, The Gentian's ethos is one of quality, innovation, freshness and abundance with comfort and friendliness thrown in. Our coffee already has a reputation.....We will be looking after you all day, with substantial breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. The setting is informal with local stone and splashes of colour; Burren and south Galway, blended with funky london, has a relaxed cosy, curl up feel, with windows looking out over the Kinvara bay - colour and comfort, space for reading chatting, meeting up or getting way from it all.

I have eaten twice this week in the Gentian and on both occasions come away frustrated. While the staff are doing their best, I feel the place needs some direction from a manager/owner. On both days I had to wait far too long (the place was not that busy!) for simple food, e.g. a scone! and then had to ask the staff to complete the order. What a pity because the scone was quite wonderful when it did arrive with jam and cream. Sorry, if I do return it wont be for a long time.

We stopped at the Gentian for a break on the coast road. We were too early for lunch so we opted for Coffee and cakes. The coffee was superb, and the cake and scones delicious.
The staff were friendly, polite and helpful, the seating was comfortable, and the price very reasonable.

The Gentian quickly became our breakfast go-to during our trip to Kinvara. The owner was always so pleasant (especially in the event of screaming child and the parent who thought it was cute instead of tried to settle the child). For the most part, the staff was always quite friendly and warm and welcoming. Yes, the food was not always quick, but with the understanding that it was not a fast food restaurant microwaving your meal, but instead it was fresh food cooked to order, it was perfectly acceptable. Only one day was the wait really long, but we were there coming off of a busy breakfast from what we saw. As much as establishments strive for perfection, there will be days that are more difficult. The food was quite nice (I'm a picky eater and we had no problem coming back each day).
