“Disappointed”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Not anywhere near the experience of Bunratty Castle. Small, overpriced and renovations by the former owner ruined the whole castle.

“Example of a classic castle/estate”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Nice small castle.

Well preserved and classic. You can inspect all the stonework and make your way to the top of the tower. Short history lessons and some traditional artwork and furnishings.

The castle and estate are fairly small, don't expect to spend more than an hour there. They also close the doors at night, day time only.

“Beautiful spot on Galway coastline.”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

Right, so a castle it is not, just a restored old tower house but it has significance in Ireland's history - particularly recently with its literary associations of some of the big names!
That aside, it is beautifully positioned at the edge of the water , making it one of the most photographed of Ireland's ancient attractions, so why not stop and admire it - from a distance if need be - because it is really a place of great natural beauty.
I found that there are so many of these ancient tower houses in differing states of disrepair - visible from the road but impossible to pull to the side and get a closer look at or even photograph - the roads, or should I say lanes are just too narrow and manically busy to risk life and limb to do that. Now the parking lot on the opposite side of the road from Dunguaire castle is a huge plus point for me - so why not take advantage of it?
You really dont need to go inside as there is enough of interest to keep you busy outside. You wont be bored!

“Another old castle worth seeing”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

We were able to get tickets for the banquet and it was very well done. Poems, storytelling and a harpist made the banquet a treat. Also purchased recipe booklets for Irish soups and breads. Loved the brown bread.

“Beautiful, but...not much to see inside”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

This castle looked just gorgeous looking down on the bay, so we decided to have a look. Tickets aren't that expensive, but the fact is that you'll just be able to see three rooms once you're in. They're nice, ok (apparently it was restored by an old English lady and there still is some of her furniture in it) but I wonder if those rooms plus a small balcony that looks down on the bay are worth the price. I heard they're having medieval banquets in one of the big rooms at night: now that is something that may be worth a trip to Kinvara, but just the visit to the castle...well, if I were you I'd enjoy it just from the outside.
