I felt compelled to write a favourable review of this Hotel because after spending 2 nights here at Easter 2005, I went on to spend 2 more nights in another hotel for twice the price with twice the stars, and I wished I had stayed on in Roundstone !!!

This hotel is rated 'two stars' - this only applies to the rooms, which are basic but clean and comfortable. If you want huge bathrooms and plush suites, go elsewhere....but what I consider five star is the service, food and the experience !

It was great to discover that there are still small family run businesses like this that still care about the guests. The Vaughan family still understand the success of there business depends on people leaving their hotel satisfied and happy to tell other people how good it was ...

Little things like real tea in the tea pots, not catering teabags that taste like floor scrapings...excellent hot breakfasts and not being told the kitchen is closed if you come down to breakfast late ! The restaurant does fantastic seafood and Maureen Vaughan is there in the evenings, in the dining room, asking EVERYONE if they are satisfied. Service is friendly, charming and understated.

When we stayed there, the hotel bar was closed to guests due to unforeseen circumstances. There were several signs up, apologising for the inconvenience and suggesting that guests could BYO there own alcohol into the hotel, no worries ! When I was checking out, Maureens son-in-law gave me 30% off my bill because the bar was closed during our stay - I had NOT complained or made any issue about this - it was a very pleasant surprise ! (and just gave us an excuse to enjoy the 3 local pubs in Roundstone !)

They have the advantage of a fantastic location on the sea and a charming local village...go there soon, particularly during an off-peak part of the season, so you can enjoy it all to yourself !

I am Irish and it is great to still know that there are little places out there like this, flying the flag for traditional Irish hospitality and maintaining a fast disappearing set of values...

A great place - family run, extremely friendly and helplful staff. The best bar food for miles around, and great restaurant as well. Family friendly too. Not to be missed. Roundstone village is probably the most picturesque in Connemara (and probably in Ireland) and has a beautiful stretch of beach just a few miles away (Gurteen bay) highly recommended.

Journey through Ireland was fantastic - Hotel was okay except for level of noise and smoke at night - people from bar now have to smoke outside - which is fine but they sat under bedroom window to drink, smoke - it was VERY noisy, smoke came into room and conversation was VERY sexually explicit until at least 1am - suggested to receptionist when paying bill that it might be good idea to mention this to people when booking rooms over looking the bay as we had not been able to sleep and dissinterested does not discribe her response - she could not have cared one jot - most unsympathetic and spoilt otherwise okay visit

My family and I were quite pleased with this hotel. Located in the center of Roundstone, it has a great pub and restuarant serving excellent fare. The room rates were very reasonable and the owner and her staff were pleasant and efficent. It has on-street parking that was easy to find and use. Great views of the ocean and the mountains from the front rooms. Though very rural, shopping is available in Clifton, about 12 miles from Roundstone. I highly recommend this hotel.
