It has been run by the O'Dowd family for four generations since 1906. A bar has been operating on the premises since 1840 and it is widely regarded as the oldest pub in Connemara. It is now famous for its excellent fresh local seafood and it has one of the best pints of guinness in the locality. Fresh seafood include our own Home-made Seafood Chowder, Roundstone Crab Claws, Cashel Bay Mussels, Mannin Bay Oysters, Local Lobster and our very popular Fisherman's Platter, all accompanied with home-made brown scones. Chicken, Meat, Vegetarian, Soups S Sandwiches are also well catered for. Reservations in our restaurant are advisable during July & August & Bank Holiday weekends.O'Dowds has a special traditional pub atmosphere & friendly service which has remained unchanged for decades if not centuries. The bar is small & intimate with its traditional turf fire & beautiful views over Roundstone Harbour & The Twelve Bens.

Although the food was average, the ambiance was quaint. We were there in the off-season but the pub was very busy. The waitstaff was friendly. The tables are crowded. There are few choices in Roundstone for dinner so the next night we ate in another town.

Well I have just come back from Spain where I ate beautiful food for a fraction of the price that we pay here so maybe it wasnt the best time to go for a meal with those beautiful meals still on my mind. We went to O Dowds for a family celebration. There were 7 adults and 3 children and 1 baby. We were placed at a table in the corner up against the wall and a fireplace. We had to clamber over chairs to get to the inside seats as there was no room to pull out the chair. Three of us had to stand up to let three other eaters into the table beside us and then every time they wanted to get out three of us had to leave our table. The baby was placed at the end of the table in a high chair right beside the kitchen door so every time a waitress came out with plates of hot food they were passing over the childs head!!!! There was no room to move the chair anywhere else. Now for the food, lets not go on about it, its not worth it. It was overpriced and very average to such an extent we wont be back. we had to order veg as it didnt arrive with the meal but I will say no more than it certainly didnt live up to reputation or expectation. Very disappointing for a family celebration.

Meal was not good value - in fact it was totally overpriced for the quality and quantity of food served.

We had no vegetables as part of the main course; only plain potato was served, which did not even taste good.

Decor is also a bit dated - no atmosphere

Service was just ok

We stopped here for dinner while touring the Connemara loop. First off, the town is wonderful. We happened to get here during the Regatta and it was so much fun. We stopped for dinner in this restaurant, and my very picky husband said that it was the best scallops that he had ever eaten! That is high praise from him. I ordered salmon and it was also delicious.

O'Dowd's is a bustling gastropub. We had to wait a little while, even though I had made a reservation. I would strongly recommend reservations. The crab claws are not to be missed. I had the seafood platter which was very good and filling. Roundstone was one of the nicest towns we visited on our cycling tour.
